Cutch is out 3-4 weeks. Let's be pessimistic and call it four (a month). Here's the slate from now until 5 Sep:

Tuesday, Aug 5 MIA
Wednesday, Aug 6 MIA
Thursday, Aug 7 MIA
Friday, Aug 8 SDP
Saturday, Aug 9 SDP
Sunday, Aug 10 SDP
Monday, Aug 11 DET
Tuesday, Aug 12 DET
Wednesday, Aug 13 @ DET
Thursday, Aug 14 @ DET
Friday, Aug 15 @ WSN
Saturday, Aug 16 @ WSN
Sunday, Aug 17 @ WSN
Monday, Aug 18 ATL
Tuesday, Aug 19 ATL
Wednesday, Aug 20 ATL
Friday, Aug 22 @ MIL
Saturday, Aug 23 @ MIL
Sunday, Aug 24 @ MIL
Monday, Aug 25 STL
Tuesday, Aug 26 STL
Wednesday, Aug 27 STL
Friday, Aug 29 CIN
Saturday, Aug 30 CIN
Sunday, Aug 31 CIN
Monday, Sep 1 @ STL
Tuesday, Sep 2 @ STL
Wednesday, Sep 3 @ STL
Friday, Sep 5 @ CHC

If the Buccos somehow manage to go 15-14 (roughly .500) during those 29 games, they'd be 74-66. There would be 22 games left. A playoff berth would still be possible. Tough, but possible.

The trouble is, looking at that slate of 29 games, we're about to see our boys face he NL's best (with four against one of the better AL teams, to boot). Starting next Monday the Pirates have 22 straight vs. postseason-caliber clubs.

This stretch was never going to be easy.

[With or without Cutch,] What record do you think the Bucs need to post during this stretch to keep their playoff chances alive?

What do you think is the worst possible W-L differential they can post without nixing their playoff chances?

How do you think they'll do the next 29 games?

My 'predictions' are:
15-14
12-17/13-16... you can't lose too many to division/league opponents and survive
??-?? (I'd kill for 14-15)

If they managed okay without him, then he came back and went on a tear to lead us into the post season, this man would of earned his Pittsburgh sports godship for eternity.

It looks like they'll catch the Tigers at "Verlander-Porcello-Sanchez", which is as good as you can expect with Detroit.

Nevermind, it's a four game set. So they'd see Scherzer as well. But if I had to miss one, I'd choose Price.

Yeah this new Justin Verlander with a 4+ ERA is preferable to the Cy Young winning version. Hopefully Kate Upton is in the front row to distract him at that game.
