Wow- either get a deal done for a corner infielder or just start planning for 2015. If this is in ANY way related to the plunking, the consequences just went up on the D-Bags.

Weren't suspensions handed down to Quentin when Greinke got hurt?

League needs to take action here, because that wasn't just intentional, that was 'we're trying to injure your star because you injured ours'

Except that the D'Backs didn't hurt 'Cutch. He pulled it on a SacF.

How do you like the trade deadline now?! That's why you trade prospects for Lester or Price, because you just don't know what could happen. Hey at least now we can call up Josh Bell to play CF! Thank God we hung on to him.... LOL

Quintin was suspended 8 games, but charging the mound and throwing punches is a completely different animal than plunking a batter.

I don't disagree that Delgado deserves a suspension, but getting hit isn't why McCutchen is going to the DL. He has an oblique injury from his swing when he hit a sacrifice fly in yesterday's game.

Pedro to RF, Polanco to LF and Marte to CF. Serious.

I had a good deal of Mexican food for lunch. I think its time to go the john and take a huge "Kirk Gibson."

After you get fired by the D-Bags, I hope you never work in baseball again, you POS!

... again, McCutchen injured himself on a swing yesterday, it is not because of the HBP.

Severely disappointed.

This will affect Cutch's MVP chances, which is beyond a shame.

The man is deserving of back-to-back reigns.

Interesting line up in Indy tonight. Marte in center, Lambo in left and Hague at first.
Maybe Lambo coming up as an outfielder? Did not see Andrew get plucked the other
night, but did he twist his body to get out of the way? Not saying that caused the
problem, but might have started something.

Lambo in the OF is really nothing new, he has split time pretty evenly between the OF and 1B in AAA this year. With Marte's rehab stint, Rojas is DHing as he's usually in the OF.

Marte to CF Polanco to LF and Lambo in RF.

I'd be very surprised if the added two outfielders and went with a single backup infielder who can't play shortstop. Snider will be in left.

I'd be very interested in getting an opinion from a kinesiologist on the issue of whether there was any correlation between the oblique strain and the HBP.

Was there a direct correlation? Not likely. Certainly not like the pitch which directly resulted in Goldschmidt's fracture.

However, it is not unusual for a player to take a day or two after experiencing a muscle injury - just to let it calm down.

Did McCutchen experience the injury when he swung the bat? Sure looks that way. But, was his swing in any way altered because of pain/discomfort in his mid to lower back after the HBP? It need not necessarily be a massive alteration. If different muscles are used to compensate for an injury to other muscles, injuries can occur.

I don't know the answer and I won't pretend to be Keith Law and be an expert on everything. I'm simply throwing out there that the body is a complex set of tissues and bones (muscles, tendons, cartilage) and it does not necessarily follow that a massive bruise in the middle of one's back is wholly unrelated to an oblique muscle strain experienced the next day when a player is engaged in a torsional exercise. And, let's face it, Cutch was likely amped up in that inning when he came to the plate. There was not a whole lot of "holding back" in those swings.

Given yesterday's off-day ... in hindsight .... it may have been the better call to let Cutch have the day off. That being written, there's no way in hell that Cutch would have sat out Sunday. He would have killed Hurdle.

Yeah, Lester would have looked great in center field. :o
