Walker's back worse than thought? They have Nix as a 2B and 3B....

If Alvarez is finally platooned that's a huge boost to the offense.

I'm not getting the sense that a platoon is in the cards. I could be wrong but I'm sensing that Harrison will be playing against both lefties and righties and that Alvarez may be a spot starter but primarily brought in as a pinch hitter against right handed pitching. Going to take some serious juggling to limit the chances that other teams can bring in a lefty (LOOGY or otherwise) to face him.

I'm thinking that this is what we will see:

Against righties (which will be the majority of days):
Polanco - RF
Marte - LF
McCutchen - CF
Walker - 2B
Martin - C
Davis - 1B
Harrison - 3B
Mercer - SS

Against lefties (I'm less confident about this order):
Harrison - 3B
Marte - LF
McCutchen - CF
Sanchez - 1B
Martin - C
Polanco - RF
Walker - 2B
Mercer - SS

I think Harrison may stay in the lead off spot permanently. Might change when Marte comes back...

I think if Pedro is getting work at first then they're likely to non-tender Ike in the offseason and have him platooned with Gaby next year. I think Ike's status was tenuous to begin with and this might be the nail in the coffin.

Why Nix? He has .288 career OBP. I like the versatility, but Morel, Martinez, Nix. They are all the same. Junk!!!!

Wait, so you're saying that good-hitting middle infielders who can play defense and maybe run a little are not available on the free agent wire?

Nooooo way ...

I was referring to the 3rd base situation more than the middle infielder. I would like to see them find an actual third base type guy instead of three guys exactly the same.

I like him better at second or fifth than leadoff.

Harrison is our best power hitter and should be batting cleanup.

Someone who a week ago had 5 HRs is the Pirates best power hitter? I'm more inclined to think last week was an aberration rather than a sign that he's suddenly on a trajectory to hit 30 HRs over the last two months. As good as he has been this year, I've seen nothing of his abilities to work the count and spray the ball w/ line drives to suggest that he's going to add a huge power surge as well.
