Lester and Jonny Gomes might be traded for Yoenis Cespedes.

Yoenes is, I think, a bit overrated offensively (like a rich man's Pedro Alvarez), but he's still great in the field. This would be surprising.

Bye bye Angels and the rest of the American League.

And the Pirates get to keep their 6,000 prospects - awesome. Now we get to wait for Josh Bell to come up and get good just as Cutch's window is closing. Pirates will remain a Division Series playoff team for the next 5 years. Unreal.

Can you whine any harder? You're not convincing enough.

Are you really going to complain if the Pirates remain a Division Series playoff team for the next 5 years?

Billy Beane is a friggin' genius. He's willing to part with a fan favorite in order to make his team light-years better. This is a steal for the A's.

Yep. He's just toying with these other GM's.

Steal might be an exaggeration, but I am surprised the price tag wasn't higher. I'm sure Boston had multiple offers and took the best one.

The price of rental players isn't what it used to be.

And if they don't win it this year? Lester is a two month rental. This doesn't qualify as a steal.

He loses Cespedes (and a bunch of other guys) after next year anyway. Probably to the Red Sox. Might as well get some value when you're clearly pushing all your chips in over the next 1.5 seasons, they have some OF depth at the major league level.

You could complain if the Pirates refused to give up prospects for a guy like Price. Lester is a two month rental. I love Lester and was on the fence about the Pirates getting him. I just don't think you can complain too much because he was a rental.

I do think the Pirates should be willing to make trades involving prospects for long term solutions.

You mean like the team you are praising (Oakland) has been for the last 15 years?

Winning a WS is not exactly easy.

That's why he's doing it. He got tired of being a first round playoff team. You have to make bold decisions to win it all or at least to have a chance to. That's the price you pay. You'll never win a WS playing it safe. Just won't happen.

Yeah, I'm surprised after all the posturing that Cespidis is all it took. He's good, but he's not a ton better than Marte.

I will say this. Beane might have had to make this move because Hammel has not been good since he came over the Cubs. It's a great move, but maybe a necessary one for the A's considering what they have already invested in this playoff run.

No one has ever won a WS that didn't acquire a player at the deadline? Ya learn something new everyday.

I say this as someone who likes the move for the A's. Pretending like a move like this is the only way to win a WS is a little ridiculous.
