He's a totally different pitcher.

His change-up is nasty.

What a pleasant surprise.

:D

Yes, that change up makes him better than All Star Locke. He's got his out pitch now.

If he can continue keeping the control in check, I have plenty of faith that Locke's floor at the very least is a slightly above average SP in the majors.

He should not see such a dramatic rise in BABIP like last year when he isn't allowing so many baserunners on walks (a terrible 4.5 BB/9 last year) and doesn't have to manage a ridiculous strand rate.

Anecdotally, I always thought he had the 'stuff' to be a #4/5 SP.

Statistically (at least by BR.com), his WAR is nearly equal to last year (0.9 vs. 1.1).

His BB rate (and WHIP) are probably unsustainable, but he's gone on these types of streaks before. Maybe he goes through regressive streaks, but so long as he remains a ~6 K/9 ~4.00 FIP SP the kid can stick around.

It would be nice to have another SP penciled in for 2015.

Streaks, smeaks. He's a lefty who is maturing into his prime. He didn't have that change up before. He does now. He's always had the mental makeup to succeed. His stuff is catching up.
