The Bucs offer Josh Bell, Glasnow, Mercer and a lesser Pitching prospect to the Cubs for Starlin Castro.

I would think Cubs only because they would want more of an arms focused deal for Starlin.

Bell/Mercer aren't bad pieces and may constitute nearly full return value, but the Cubs need arms.

A 3 WAR shortstop is nice, but not worth giving up a pair top 50 prospects including your future 1B and a pitcher with top of rotation SP potential. And with nice SS depth in the system now with Hanson, Jones and Tucker.

Huntington laughs in the face of the Cubs GM, falls out of his chair, and curls into the fetal position, tears of laughter pouring out of his eyes.

Pirates.

They aren't coughing that up for the worst defensive shortstop in the majors.

Here's another idea:

Pittsburgh Pirates trade Pedro Alvarez (controlled through 2016), Harold Ramirez (in A-ball at West Virginia), and Adrian Sampson (in AA) to the Texas Rangers for Adrian Beltre (signed through 2016) and Joey Gallo (in AA Texas League).

Who says no?

May actually have a winner there. I'd do it.

How about...

Adrian Sampson and Mel Rojas, Jr. for Huston Street? Who says no?

Why wouldn't the Rangers say no to that in a half-second?

Because they're being compensated for a slight loss of production and control at third (although they're getting 8 years younger) by gaining two decent prospects. They would have to at least think about it. It's not like they are going to win this year.

The only reason why they might say no is because they have such a log jam in the IF that acquiring another IF might not be their best use of a trade chip like Beltre.

They're more hard up for arms due to injuries (and OFers with the losses of guys like Cruz and Hamilton).

Derek Jeter isn't a shortstop, he's a monument to his former greatness.

They would probably be disappointed if Gallo turns into Pedro Alvarez. To me, it makes zero sense then to trade Gallo (along with Beltre) for Alvarez.

Gallo is well above Ramirez and Sampson as a prospect. I think the Rangers decline this trade in a few seconds.

You're probably right. Instead of Gallo, the Pirates may have to settle for Ramirez in the trade. And I'd still do it.

The rumor is Troy Tulowitzki has told the Rockies he wants dealt.

What would it take for the Rockies to say yes?

Now that's the $64,000 question for the day. He is owed $20 million per year for the next couple years, then $13 and $14 million. I am quite sure that one would cost Kingham or Glasnow and 2 or 3 others.

So, apparently J_C has grabbed radio interest as David Todd's show is running the "Who says no?" meme. You should have copyrighted the topic J_C.

He has 6 years and $118 mil left. Reasonable contract I think, but his injury history is scary when you talk about giving up so much. That would be my only real fear, otherwise I'd probably trade a ton for him.
