And that's that. Another deflating loss. Gotta come back tomorrow and get that one.

The pirates had been playing better. Why? They played the mets, d backs and phillies.

One team knows how to win, and one team doesn't. 0-17 with RISP last two games. It's one thing to beat the bottom feeders, but if they want to make something of this season they better figure out how to beat these other 3 teams in their division...like starting tomorrow.

Frieri is crap! And of all people to beat us, Wong? The septic tank shows it's ugly head once again. And guys like marte and Pedro need to start coming through. So what if Pedro homered tonight. What's he good every 50 at bats?

Tonight was a classic case of the ineptitude of the "save your closer during a tie game on the road" strategy.

Melancon did not pitch yesterday and would have been a smart decision to the pitch the 9th tonight. I liked the Frieri trade and think he can turn it around, but is objectively the worst reliever in the bullpen right now and was terrible his last outing. Tie game in the 9th against a good line-up was not the time to use him. Using Gomez and stretching him out in extras might have even been a better option.

I would have used Watson. Only 5 pitches last night.

Watson pitched the 8th tonight.

Unless you just mean you would have stretched him to two innings. Not a bad idea considering the low PC, but would never happen.

I know. He only threw 8 Pitches but oh well. Have to win tonight.

If tonight doesn't show that a trade for Kennedy and Street from SD I don't know what does. Street can slide into closer role moving MM back into the 8th. Kennedy will give you 6+ solid innings on most starts.

Deflating sort of loss. It's one thing to lose to Wainwright. But another entirely to lose to Kolten Wong.

Last night's game turned on Molina picking off Walker at third base with one out. If the Pirates get that run, it's Melancon in the 9th. How many catchers can make that play? Well, that's why the Cardinals are the Cardinals. Gotta tip your cap to Molina there...

Agree. I think we have enough offense- no one really has a jugernaut. Especially if we get more second half production from Alvarez and Davis. We need that lock down bullpen. We might even have enough starting pitching if the past month and Liriano's rehab start are any indication.

He was probably safe, but shame on Walker for making it that close. He about had the same thing happen in a 1st and 3rd situation on Monday. You can argue that the whole dynamic was changed, but Martin did strike out on next pitch.

The 2 games to me boil down to 3 at bats (blowpen or not). Pedro striking out with guy on 3rd and 1 out in Game 1. Cutch doing the same in first inning last night and this Martin/Walker at bat. I think Martin was at 2 strikes at time of pickoff. We get the run in game 1 and get 1 of the 2 in game 2 and Melancon's pitching with the lead in the 9th in both games. The 0-17 with RISP is bad enough, but we simply needed to get ball in play in these situations and things could've been different. Is there any thought to shortening up and trying to get the run home in those situations? I know Pedro was just being Pedro chasing and flailing, but Cutch took 3 mighty hacks at the 98+ MPH fastballs in his AB. Frustrating.

I'm in this boat as well.
