Another solid outing for Jeff Locke. It would be really nice if he's figured things out after last season's meltdown.

If McGehee comes back to haunt the Pirates...

*sigh*

Radio crew mentioned how the Bucs haven't won a game on Friday the 13th in 11 years.

This is absurd.

I mean, who in their right mind WOULDN'T go from their 3rd best reliever to their 4th best reliever in a higher leverage situation?

Anyone else hoping that they would just lose it in the 9th. Now it'll go 19 innings and we'll get 17 hits but can't score a run and the bullpen will be exhausted.

Of course they couldn't go any worse than our best in the 9th!

Disgraceful!

PitchF/X has that as Ball 4 on Polanco. Figures.

Radio crew just noted that 11 Bucs have K'd since Eovaldi left in the fifth.

Actually no. In this case I think its "Searaged" Four run lead tell these guys not to get cute. Just throw your best. Throw strikes. If they get hits and beat you fine, but don't FUCKING walk 5 guys with a four run lead!

Tell these guys to throw strikes and not get cute.

He just should've never had Grilli in. You don't go from your 3rd best reliever to the 4th. You can't manage over a stat. No different than Terry Collins not pulling a young guy who was struggling in the 5th because it would cost him a win (he wound up giving up the go-ahead homer and getting yanked).

Now you have to eat up the bullpen.

3 relievers, none would throw strikes with a 4 run lead.

I don't blame Hurdle AT ALL for what happened... He gave the ball to a major league pitcher with a four run lead and he couldn't throw strikes. Then, he gave the ball to an all star pitcher and he couldn't throw strikes. So then, he gave the ball to another all star pitcher, and he couldn't throw strikes. Three different guys couldn't throw strikes. That's not the manager's fault.

They didn't try to throw strikes. They kept looking for the perfect pitch and nibbling at corners. Throw the god damned thing hard and if they get five hits then great. Not five FUCKING WALKS!

You either start the inning with Grilli or you don't use him that inning at all. He could use Watson, but he wasted him in a 4-0 game last night. You're right that the pitchers should throw strikes, especially with a 4 run lead, but still poor managing.
