So you guys are always ready to jump Pedro but Matte is worse at the dish. When is it his turn for you to jump his ass. He has a baseball IQ the minus range and K'S at every chance he has.

No doubt. Dudes a free swinger. I remember k/bb rate improving as he came up through the system. That's over with.

In other news Harrison has almost hit as many homers as McCutchen.

Saw this tweet today. Thought it summed it up perfectly:

"Throw a breaking ball low and away to Starling Marte with two strikes" might be the easiest scouting report in baseball - @ForbesToFederal

Marte might be one of the most gifted athletes I've ever seen. But I wouldn't say he's a good baseball player.

Never mind the count, throw nothing but sliders in the dirt to Marte. He loves chasing them and even makes contact sometimes.

Can't say it any better than that.

It just seems like his head is only in the game 50% of the time.

He is an elite defender (especially for a team that plays 81 games with PNC's LF), which is at least a considerable asset to the low baseball IQ, especially considering more than a few Pirates have shown to be poor base-runners. No doubt that it is frustrating though. But, recent gaffes aside, I have seen improvements this year, his CS rate is considerably down, and at the plate, I'm glad he has cut down on the pointless first pitch bunt attempt a fair amount.

The biggest issue though is of course the plate discipline, and last year's OBP being boosted by the HBP totals is definitely rearing it's ugly head. I still think he'll get to a .750+ OPS by the end of the year, but the BB:K ratio is a tremdnous problem going forward.

If Pedro had Marte's batting average no one would complain. With that said, Marte has a lot to learn.

Marte lacks discipline and fundamentals. Sometimes I think the bucs brought him up too fast. He has talent, but doesn't use his head. And why is he always trying to bunt?

Just watched marte get picked off again. He should still be in the minors.

1st and 2nd with nobody out against Dodgers on Friday and Marte is picked off second...by the catcher. When is Clint going to start holding him accountable. Put his ass on the bench. Total rally killer.

I agree that Marte has to be more careful there, but how bad have the Pirates been at laying bunts down? Liriano has to lay that down.

Walker RBI single gives Bucs 1-0 lead.

Ive just about had it with marte. He just dropped a ball right in his glove. This guy is dawging it. His ass needs to be sitting on the bench. He drops balls, strikes out, gets picked off. When is enough is enough?

If Marte doesn't start picking it up soon, I believe we could see Polanco in right field in a couple of weeks, Cutch in center, and Josh Harrison in left field (with Marte as a late-innings defensive replacement).

Believe me. I hope Harrison keeps it up, but I don't think Harrison is taking over for Marte any time soon. Marte is the future. They need to let him play through this. Plus, you will have a major drop in defense if Harrison plays full time.

Sure, but Harrison can certainly give Marte a few days off to work on his swing and try to adopt a better approach at the dish. If Harrison keeps crushing, they have to find a place for him to play. And while Marte is certainly the future (as evidenced by his 6-year, $35 million deal), the present demands attention. I was listening to Greg Brown this weekend, and he noted that Hurdle hinted at sitting Marte on the bench if his approach continued to be poor. And last night, it was poor yet again.

Here's a possible line-up on Polanco's arrival:

Gregory Polanco, RF
Neil Walker, 2B
Andrew McCutchen, CF
Ike Davis, 1B
Russell Martin, C
Pedro Alvarez, 3B
Josh Harrison, LF
Clint Barmes, SS
Pitcher

I'm of the impression that Marte has done this at every level. Had his "adjustment struggles" but then starts to rip once the weather warms. I suspect it to happen here, too.

BTW, that was not a dropped ball. Don't know what the ump was thinking.

I haven't seen Marte look this lost ever. He's probably going to have to play through this until he finds command of the strike zone again. Sitting him won't help that happen, and going back and facing AAA sliders won't help, either. He amost has to figure it out up here.
