Im not sure I understand this. Hes 28, and while hes no wiz out there and has control issues, he did seem to handle right handed hitters effectively; a 1.04 whip and a .210 BAA. Im not sure who I would have DFA'ed instead, I just didnt expect it to be Beam.

But Im sure Im missing something. Perhaps someone can explain. Thanks.

Beam had played alot in the majors with us and the Yankees and he really didn't do alot.My guess would be that they saw it that he had reached his ceiling in the majors and he wasn't going to get any better.I liked him alot when we got him from the Yankees. On paper he looks great.Hes got the size, hes got okay numbers but it just wasn't there. He was always going to be a player that was up and down from minors to majors.Thats my guess why.

While I doubt Beam will turn out to be a big loss, there are certainly candidates ahead of him <cough> Dave Davidson <cough> that could have been released. Is Beam out of options? They may have assumed he wasn't going to make the team, with Hansen, Capps, Yates, Burnett, Grabow, and others ahead of him, and figured he would have to go on waivers anyways.

TORONTO -- The Blue Jays continued to add pitching depth on Thursday, when the club claimed right-hander T.J. Beam off waivers from the Pirates.
