I thought one of the reasons Freddy is in the leadoff spot was to force him to not swing at everything? Pitch recognition? Jump start his bat again? Although it has worked......but........
his last AB just now he swings at a ball in the dirt in front of the plate for strike three........lord good lord I don't understand.

One of Freddy's problems ever since returning from the injury has been swinging in the dirt.

Dumatrait just became only the third left-hander this year to strike out Albert Pujols.

Troy Glaus, a known steroid user who sucks now that he is not cheating.

Should not have left Dumatriat in the game. He was tiring. You could see his velocity decline and his control get spotty.

Is this umpire going to marry Kyle Lohse?

Where are they going on their honeymoon?

Not much you can say about about that last inning. Dumatrait was pitching a great game, strikes out Pujols, walks the next batter and then gives up the go-ahead HR for the Cards. You can just kind of look on and stare.

(Mid-post live game update): Gotta love those random doubles by Bay and Ron Paul! 3-3 ball game. Take the lead for Phil!

Bautista singles in Ron Paul, Pirates regain the lead 4-3.

Where the #$%& have these bats been the whole game? Oh well, guess we just needed runners on base.

How about it -- Batista hit to score Paulino. 4-3 and Dumatrait stands to win if...

Pirates are showing some onions tonight. After losing the 2-0 lead they come back with 2 in the 7th. Shut 'em down Marte!

It's too bad that we dumped Matt Morris to make room for this Dumatrait guy to be promoted to a starter, Matty Mo obviously would have pitched a much better game tonight and would have not given up those 3 runs (let the jokes commence!).

It sounds like this great umpire job carried over to Marte on that final AB of the 7th, but alas he gets it done after a full count.

Any team looking for relief help that does not talk to the Pirates about Marte deserves to lose.

He is nasty. He has scrapped the curve ball that caused some problems earlier in the year, and just mows through hitters with a fastball and slider. The Cards hitters were overmatched.

Agreed. His girlfriend, Kyle Lohse, was not pitching so suddenly the pitch off the outside corner is a ball.

I really do not like the way this game is playing out.

The Pirates have gone through their 2 best lefty relievers and the game is tied.

The Buccos are not hitting.

I hate Tony Larussa.

(Just thought that I would add the last thought.)

And the replays of Pujols' HR showed that he was out in front of a change-up, hit it with one hand basically.

The ball went 400'. Kind of like those McGwire at bats years ago. Does anybody else wonder about that?

Rare bad outing by Grabow, but Pujols can certainly do that to anybody in the league. And it was kind of expected with the theme this game has taken. Hopefully Yates can get us into the 9th with no more damage done.

Larussa has had more juiced players than any other manager, and it is not even close.

His team traded for a know juicer, Glaus.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/b ... index.html

The issues with Canseco, McGwire, etc. are well-known.

So, Larussa is in St. Louis and has another incredible, amazing, remarkable power hitter. Is Pujols just that good?

Certainly possible. But out in front, one-handed, off a change-up and 400'?

Hmmmm. Guess Larussa is just a lucky guy and keeps getting player who can hit those one-handed home runs.

Would you swing on the first pitch when the bases are loaded with two out no matter what inning it is?

I guess I know what Chris Gomez would say......... :?

Welcome to the big leagues, Marino Salas. Bases juiced, bottom of the 9th 2 outs in a tie game.

And Ryan Ludwick.

Good job by Salas. He must have been chewing cotton - first appearance, on the road, bottom ninth, tie game.

He walked the lead-off guy but after that threw the ball pretty much where he wanted. (He was not going to give Pujols anything to hit.)
