Lots being written about him the last couple of days. He's getting an aggressive push to Altoona to start the season. A couple of his BP sessions have been videoed. Here is one:

I love the swing. You could put a glass of water on top of his helmet and it wouldn't spill when he swings. Very quiet. And what you don't see is that he is hitting homers. I would love to see him have a breakout year and compete to be our first baseman of the future along with Josh Bell.

I could not agree more. He's a righty version of Pedro, potentially. And he could really add something to the lineup if he's ready by 2016. How would this strike folks on Opening Day 2016?

LF Starling Marte
RF Gregory Polanco (L)
CF Andrew McCutchen
3B Pedro Alvarez (L)
2B Neil Walker (S)
1B Stetson Allie
SS Alen Hanson (S)
C Tony Sanchez
P Gerrit Cole

Sure, there are two projected rookies in that lineup (Allie and Hanson), but that's some serious talent and a bunch of guys still in their respective primes...

Quite aggressive given the fact that he was unimpressive in Bradenton last season. If he becomes something it's gravy but I'm not expecting anything. I still think Josh Bell is the 1B of the future.

The AA promotion doesn't surprise me that much considering his clock already being behind due to being a hitter conversion and the the mid-season jump to high-A last year. I'm not very optimistic, myself. I was championing Allie as much as anyone for his phenomenal HR:AB ratio in low-A, definitely one of the most interesting prospect developments last year, but doing so at an older age and with a very poor K%, I was very weary of what he would do when promoted, and that power literally disappeared in high-A, while still posting the very bad K%. All that being said, I'm glad he made an effort to lose weight in the off-season. But, I think it will take major, major adjustments to not be eaten alive by the jump to AA pitching. I hope I'm wrong.

He eliminated a high leg kick that he developed in high A last year and is going back to a more simple approach. Let's hope that helps.

Certainly its encouraging news, even though he is still a long shot.

Just about to reply with that. He looked bad here in Bradenton. I was expecting him to come here or down to WV. Altoona may be disappointed.

Only thing wrong with that lineup is that Polanco wil be leading off and Marte hitting second. he will see a lot more good pitches hitting in front of Cutch.

You could go so many directions with that 2016 lineup. My personal favorite is...

Marte
Polanco
McCutchen
Alvarez
First base (Lambo, McGuiness, Sanchez, Allie)
Walker
Hanson
T. Sanchez

marte strikes out way too much and he can't always count on geting HBP 30 times a year. From what I understand Polanco has way more plate discipline.

Maybe this one is more to your liking:

Hanson
Polanco
McCutchen
Alvarez
Marte
First base
Walker
Sanchez
