Oy. Tough prospect news these past 24 hours between Sano and Taijuan Walker being shut down due to the dreaded "shoulder discomfort".

Remember all the criticism of the FO when we didn't get Sano. Turns out he has lost a year and maybe much more. There really is luck involved as well as everything else in putting together a quality team. Big money teams just spend a little more and move on, but small market teams get crippled again.

Actually I just call it karma. For twenty years these things always seemed to break against us. Can't miss prospects showed up as Chad Hermansn, Every top pitching prospect we had seemed to blow out his arm or need Tommy John surgery somewhere along the line.

The wheel of life is just stopping on the numbers we bet on for once. Let's hope we get 20years of good bounces.

Twins were likely to bring up Sano this year, if he held his own in AAA. He was going to be a starter in 2015.

The injury means that 2014 is lost and 2015 will start in the minors.

Therefore, the injury does not hurt the Twins when you think about it. They are giving up one year of Sano at age 20, in exchange for one year of Sano at age 27.

I know which one I would rather have.

But where will he play. He's eaten himself out of SS, and was trying to play 3b at a reported 260+ and growing.

Context: Alvarez is listed at 6'3" and 235.
Sano is 6'4" and 260. Pass the cookies.

Plus Sandoval and Cabrera at 240, etc.

And it's not like Sano at 3B is anything new, he's been playing primarily third his whole career in the minors, and Minnesota's current 3B is a utility guy (Plouffe). FWIW I've also never heard his weight listed as "260+", I think that's a stretch, I've heard more like the 240-250 range. If he actually does get that big, then yes it's a problem and he likely moves to 1B or corner OF. More importantly though, when you're a 20 year old with 90 HRs in the minors, I don't think the Twins are overtly concerned about his defensive upside.

It also doesn't help when some of those top pitching prospects who were drafted the highest like Bullington and Moskos weren't good picks at the time of the draft and had mediocre ceilings to begin with.

If he's that big he's going to play first, or even DH. There is nowhere else that he could play.

Still wish we had him.

There was a blog posting, I think from Tim Williams, maybe not... I don't have time to track it down right now, that did a full piece on him (as the lost Pirate). That article had him at 260 and growing. They did not say he was "fat" and that he handled the weight well, but that he was still growing and could not see him staying at 3B for any length of time.

"Sigh" there is the 1B hole-to-be-filled.
