2 yrs 18 mil.

How is this guy only worth 9 million per? Especially when Ryan Howard wants 18 million per and is being offered 14 million?

I think Milwaukee got quite a bargain for the next two years with Prince.

Fat or not, if I was him and I hit 112 HR and drove in 302 runs in my first 3 full seasons in the league, and my team offered me an average of 9 million per year when I see that Ryan Howard is going to be getting somewhere in between 14-18 million a year, and Aramis Ramirez is getting 75 million over 5 from the Cubs, I'd take it an insult.

He's a chump for being dumb enough to signing that.

Why? He was asking for 8 million for arbitration and ended up getting an average of 9 million for 2 years.

Actually their years of service are different so they are on different arbitration scales. I'll go one even further and say Howard is off the scale, thanks to his huge payday last year, but again, service time is at play here.

There is supposed to be a scale that teams and players are to follow loosely when arbitrating. It's supposed to be 20/40/60/80/100 or something like that. The idea being that a player is to receive a percentage of his fair market value commensurate with his years in the arbitration process. So Fielder is probably hovering around 40% while Howard is closer to 100%.

I could be off so hopefully someone with more knowledge can fill in the blanks.
