One post on MLB Trade Rumors said Kansas City may be interested in Kendry Morales, in which case they will want to flip Billy Butler for pitching. I would love to have this 27 year old in our lineup behind Pedro. However, he is a free agent at the end of this season and he is due to make $8 million this year. He doesn't play a lot of defense, but his numbers don't look that bad.

If we can sign a pitcher to replace him, I would be willing to give up Charlie Morton for him, provided we could extend him.

Great bat, but he cannot field worth a darn. Further, his pending free agency gives him limited value to a team like the Pirates.

The Pirates feature ground-ball pitchers, and infield defense is very important. Further, the Buccos are not in a position to compete for Butler's services after this year, since they will be competing against AL teams willing to pay for a productive young DH.

I've seen him play first, and it was very, very ugly. Worse than Ryan Doumit at any position ugly.

Well, maybe not THAT ugly, but definitely ugly.

I'd take a chance on him, but not for Morton.
