Buccos traded Mike Mikolas for Chris McGuiness of Texas AAA fame. Kid batted .179 in very limited action, and only .245 at AAA. Had 10 HR in 100 +/- AB's in AAA so not sure if he was injured or what. Small guy for 1B....6'1" 209lbs. Probably a replacement for Lambo at AAA so wouldn't shock me if they already gave up on trading for a real 1B and its a Gaby/Lambo platoon in their minds.

I'd rather have the pitcher. McGuiness seems to be a long shot.

And the pitcher didn't?

They gave up AAA depth at a position where they have a surplus for AAA depth at a position where they have no depth.

I don't think it has anything at all to do with whether or not they've given up on trading for a first baseman. It's just insurance.
