More disappointed in Tabata who swung and missed a center cut strike on the hit and run.

You don't run on Yadi Molina.

It was a hit-and-run.

Martinez was dealing in the upper 90's so the approach has inherent danger.

I would have been hesitant to ask a guy sitting on the bench for 8 innings, in cool weather, facing a guy dealing 97 mph, to play hit-and-run.

I know what it was.

And for all the reasons you point out, and all the results it yielded, it was a giant risk.

It wasn't worth the risk unless Marte or Cutch was on first.

My thinking, too.

Harrison may have made it, but for the slide issue.

If you weren't thinking of the fictional Willie Mays Hayes and were looking for a Pirate, didn't Stargell slide too soon and tried to call time out while crawling the rest of the way??

As for the play, it was a hit and run per Hurdle and JHay had it beat if he had slid a little later. Molina bounced the throw and it was to the 3rd base side. Bad slide or otherwise we have runner on 2nd with one out.

It was Stargell. And it's hilarious. And I'd heard about it for decades but never actually saw it until 4 or 5 years ago, thanks to the wonder of youtube, which is easily the greatest site on the internet.

Tabata's a good contact hitter and Harrison would have had the bag swiped if he doesn't start his slide 20 feet from the bag.
