Mota in and Jones out.
He will be carrying a cheap price tag.
Do you think there is any chance we could see Andruw Jones in a Pirates Uniform in 2009?

from what i've been reading on some sites it looks like they only think he will be getting around 3 million a year.I think he is worth a risk of 3 million if its a one or two year deal

I've come around on this subject. If the actual price tag is around 3 million for one year, then I'm all for signing him and seeing if he can resurrect his career in Pittsburgh.

Barry Larkin and Harold Reynolds did a great analysis of his swing and what has changed in it last night on MLB Network.

Five, count 'em, five k's in one game. Notice the hustle down the line on the last one.

Gotta love the, "MVP, MVP..." chant.

Az, quit teasing, or are you on a commission basis with the MLB Network, what's the poop on Andruw's swing?

Why pay him $3 Million for the same production they can get from Monroe who is signed to a minor league deal?

They said he was standing too upright and was rolling over.

Usually a result of improper timing, as evidenced by his whopping 36% strikeout rate last year. Sounds like he needs more time in the cage. Or he could go here:

I enjoy his credentials...4 time MVP (not in the Majors)
Member of the 93 Phillies...for 8 games
Member of the 97 Indians...for 16 games
Member of the 99 Yankees...for 6 games

I'd rather let my kid hangout with Pete Rose down at the track to pick up tips on hitting than send him to Manto...

Jones is worth a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training and incentives, nothing more.

Geez, talk about pi$$ing away a career. Has he just figured he's made enough money and screw it? He's not that old, either. If some organization could figure out how to light a fire under him, I think they'd have a player.

I think this is the type of player the Pirates need to take a chance on. Let's say they sign him to a one-year deal with a team option and he stinks. Then, you wasted one year of money and a buyout. But what if he is good. Then you have control of him for two years and there are unlimited possibilities i.e. another contract, trade etc.

It's not like he is blocking anyone. I still think McCutcheon is in AAA for the season and even if he isn't, you have only one OF you are sure of and people get hurt.

Though I think he is done, but if you're looking to sign him, I'd offer him a minor league deal with a clause if he makes the team he gets a base salary of a $1 Million, with incentives for plate appearances, games played, hits, and HR's, All-Star appearance, MVP, and Gold Glove....and throw in some free season passes to Seven Springs...

Speaking of Seven Springs, the Johnny Cash tribute band I am in, got a phone call from them yesterday and we have an audition with them in the end of February for a chance to play at their ampitheater this summer, opening for one of their headlining acts...

I say we sign him. Im getting tired of referencing Burnitz as the dumbest thing we've ever done. Its time to move on.

I could see Andruw retiring before he accepts a minor league deal. He's going to make $5 million this year plus an additional $2 million over the next six years per the agreement he worked out with the Dodgers. A $300k minor league deal is chump change. Plus he really doesn't come across as the type of player who will be motivated to recapture his old glories.

That being said, someone will roll the dice on him, I still hope it ain't us.

Lastly, even if he manages to get back on track a bit, his last two seasons will hang around his neck like an albatross, significantly reducing his trade value.
