Was just thinking, has Cole overtaken Burnett as our 2nd best pitcher?

Cole has awesome stuff with a lot of years to perfect it, if he stays healthy. Burnett's repertoire is pretty filthy when he's on. Cole looks confident right now. Burnett looked scared last night. Burnett has been rocked repeatedly by the cards since he's been a pirate. That's got to be in his head.

There is no doubt in my mind . . . right now . . . I'd pitch Cole ahead of Burnett.

Game 5....all the marbles on the line...I go with Cole over Burnett and he will have enough rest.

I don't mind Burnett starting game #5 - BUT if he pitching like crap again, pull him

I would have to go with Cole. Let's face it he is better. Especially in St. Louis.

But hopefully it won't go 5 games. :P

I like to call Liriano, Burnett, Cole, and Morton

Number 1, 1A, 1B, and 1C!

Agree.

Another thought is that Burnett only threww 72 pitches yesterday. Would you bring him back for Game 4 on three days rest instead of Morton? AJ's ERA in PNC is 2.37 this year. On the road it is the wrong side of 4.50. I doubt Hurdle would do that, but it is worth considering. In any event, in a Game 5 on the road, after watching today's game I vote for Cole. Cole, btw, has been better on the road this year, although the numbers aren't that credible.

I'm still fairly confident that they will start Burnett game 5 (if necessary) with Cole in the bullpen ready from the first pitch. Clint Hurdle is welcome to prove me wrong.

More or less this.

If it comes to a game five wouldn't it seem like the time for perfect redemption for A.J.?

My choice would be Cole. But Hurdle has time after time chosen the veteran over the young guy. He will start Burnett if it goes five. It is his biggest flaw as manager.

I love AJ, but the real issue with pitching him in a clincher is this: http://www.baseball-reference.com/playe ... ason::none

His WHIP is much higher over his playoff career than regular season career, as is his ERA.

I'm not saying you can't pitch him in a series (such as we did with Game 1), but he doesn't seem to respond well to big games in the Post Season.

King Cole is my man from what I've seen...especially if it's a big final Game 5 in St. Louis.

Liriano
Cole
A.J.
Morton

A.J. and Charlie a close 3rd and 4th position starters for the Post Season. A.J. probably gets the nod for me over Charlie (not by much) if both are starting a game at PNC.

On the road, Gerrit Cole No. 1.

At Home, Liriano No. 1...especially against a line up dominated by left handed hitters.

Good thing we are not going to NEED a game #5 starter! Burnett can start Game #1 of the NL Championship series!

I just think for a number of reasons, Burnett pitches horribly against SL!
