Let's do this again. How about a shut down inning.

Another mistake by Hurdle, in my opinion. I would have brought in Sanchez to face the lefty. No time to get complacent.

Instead Morneau hits into a DP.

Anyone else noticed how underwhelming Busch Stadium has been?

Cardinals fans are actually selling NLDS tickets on Stubhub for face value.

And as, PiratesProspects posted yesterday, this is what the stadium looked like yesterday when the line-ups were announced:

I don't know Shark - I had friends at the game last night (both Pirates and Cards' fans) and the consistent report was that the stadium was full and very into the game. It may not have been the raucous party as PNC on Tuesday but . . . what has been? That was 20+ years in the making.

I had a buddy of mine offer me two tickets for today but I'm stuck in NY and watching in the Syracuse airport. He told me that the afternoon first pitch played a role for those at his firm who would have otherwise attended.

St. Louis is freaking baseball crazy.

I get the thought process but I'm not sure you burn your best right handed hitter off the bench with a four run lead. I can see it both ways.

You're probably right. I did consider that today's start time probably had a lot to do with it after I made that post.

Hey, Marte was actually able to hold up on the pointless first pitch drag bunt attempt when it was out of the strike zone. That' progress. Next stop: stop doing it entirely.

There is value to making sure that the 3rd baseman respects the possibility of a drag bunt. If the 3rd basemen has to play even with the bag, Marte has a better chance of finding the hole between SS and 3rd base as well as reducing the reaction time of the third baseman.

The Busch Stadium crowd got awfully loud there and then awfully quiet!

That easy catch by Cutch at the wall was an adventure for last year's Cutch. His defense has caught up with his reputation and then some this year.

Conversely, there is negative value in giving away a strike to get behind in a count for a lead-off hitter that has a 25% K rate.

I like bunting for a base hit but Marte does it a bit too much.

Good hustle by Byrd on the popup.

No. 9 alert. No. 9 alert. Productive outs by Pedro and Russell.

No. 9 gushes. Celebrates. Says in your face.

Productive not-outs are good too though. Like when he hit the ball over the fence.
