Is it for real, or is it simply sabremetric "luck" that works against poorer teams, but will regress to the mean against an aggressive defensive shift in a short series?

Some of both. They did it for too long for it to be just luck.

But it was really nice to see us shut down Brandon Phillips when he had his opportunities Tuesday.

Doesn't matter either way.

In a few days, we will not be talking about St Louis RISP, but instead, Cardinals RIP!

Go Bucs!

The 60 point difference between the team's overall BA and its BA with RISP is a fluke.

The Cards hit .269 overall, and .330 with RISP. That is the highest difference in the history of baseball.

Any time a team does something that is this rare, a huge fluke element is involved.

Oh, and if this is the product of some unique approach or skill, then please explain how basically the same team hit seven points LOWER with RISP than overall last year (.271 overall, .264 with RISP).

What, Molina, Craig, Holliday, Freese, Beltran, et al. learned some incredible secret over the winter?

Yeah, not buying it.

Oh, and by the way, the Pirates bullpen held opponents to a combined .233 BA with RISP.

Irresistable force, meet immovable object.
