I don't think you need that many pitchers. I would have left Bryan Morris off the roster and added Travis Snider. I also would have selected Tony Sanchez over John Buck, not that it will matter much -- Martin should catch every game.

I was missing Tony too. Of course he was here in Bsadenton in 2010 so I am biased! :-) (as I should be!)

Cards have 12 pitchers; 11 position players on their NLDS roster.

Lot of off days in the post season (2 during this series), plus you don't need 5 starters. Under those circumstances, I think that 12 pitchers is too many. I'd rather have the extra bat.

Same here with the pitchers..

..but I think with Buck, they are thinking they'd rather have a veteran bat off the bench if they maybe needed a guy to get a hold of one.

I'd take Sanchez higher average and speed over Bucks once in a blue moon power.

To be fair they are probably about a wash speed-wise.

I agree though, I simply like the idea of getting your catcher of the future postseason experience as a rookie.

As has been said though, ultimately a moot point because other than a deep extra inning game where Buck becomes the last available PH option, Martin won't be missing an inning/AB.

I didn't say that was MY thoughts... I would have gone with Sanchez too.

I hope there's no situation in which Buck has to wear catcher's equipment in an important situation.

I don't know why he's on there over Sanchez, either - but hopefully it won't matter.
