If we are going to be predicting who the Pirates lone all-star will be this year i would have to pay Doumit leads my vote right now with Capps behind him if none of our hitters step up and have an all-star type season.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Andy LaRoche will be the Pirates All-Star representative.

Out on a limb? I think that might be a twig. I hope you are on a short tree!

I'd love for that to be true. The Bay trade looks worse than I originally thought unless this guy turns in to the guy scouts say he will and the Morris kid turns into a solid ML starter. Hansen is a project, Moss a hard working 4th outfielder, and these two guys. Bay was our one solid trade chip so you have to get some good regular players for him. Maybe Hansen turns out, but it's these two ex-Dodgers that need to make it happen.

And if nothing else I hope he, at the very least, doesn't look like he's wearing a frying pan for a glove at third, and that he won't jog to first base on every ground ball.

I was thinking the same thing.

I'm basing my prediction on LaRoche's minor league record -- it's pretty solid. There's a reason why he was rated one of the best prospects in baseball last year. I chalk up his bad numbers last year to bad luck and a hand injury. I expect to see a sharp turnaround for Andy LaRoche.

I certainly HOPE you are right...it would make a significant difference in our line-up (not significant enough, but significant). I would be glad to see him be an adequate 3B at this point....All-Star is a stretch IMO.

The time honored tradition is to trade our best player before the deadline to either the Red Sox or Yankees for "Quality Depth", i.e., career minor league players.

That will be the plan again this year.

Yes thats the plan, but the question is who the players we will trade away this year is and to what team will they go to?

I say Adam LaRoche has to be atop the list because he has good second half of the season skills and i think this year it will be to an AL central team because it is going to be a close race between Chicago, Cleveland, and Minnesota.
I think it will be the Whitesox though
