If Mercer's goal was to make everyone forget about his defensive gaffe on Friday, I'd give him an F tonight.

Merely from defensive perspective. He continues to hit lefties.

Mercer's gotten the yips a bit. I can deal with his slightly reduced range so long as he continued to make all of the routine plays. At the moment, he rarely fields a ball cleanly.

I think No. 9 is right -- Barmes has to get the nod at shortstop against right-handed pitchers. (And that's despite Barmes himself making two errors and a misplay at shortstop on Sunday afternoon.)

Oh, and No. 9, another guy whose defense has gone downhill lately is Pedro Alvarez. Am I the only one who wouldn't mind seeing him replaced for defense late in games when the Bucs have a lead?

I think in close games with leads, the left side of the infield needs to be replaced until Mercer and Alvarez calm down. There's no arguing we're talking about 2 young guys in high pressure MLB games, but that's an excuse that can't become "just a fact."

Who's playing third over Alvarez though in the 9th?

I'd consider Josh Harrison.

I suppose. He's not exactly brimming with late season meaningful experience either though.

The only other guys would be Martin or Gaby Sanchez.

Yes, you are.

You don't take Pedro's bat out of the game.

And who would you play there anyway for defensive purposes? There is nobody on the roster any better at defense.
