as reported by the AP:

"SLUMPING PIRATES: Pittsburgh can't wait for San Diego to get out of town. The Padres beat the Pirates for the second straight night, improving to 30-10 in Pittsburgh since the new ballpark opened in 2001. Pittsburgh fell a game behind St. Louis, which routed Colorado 11-4 to take the NL Central lead."

Time for the Pirates to wake up? Time for the Pirates to figure out they're in a tight pennant race? Time for the Pirates to figure out that every out of every game REALLY MATTERS!?

Time for the OFFENSE to put runs on the board? Time for players like Walker, Pedro, and Martin (amongst others) to start getting HITS and SCORING RUNS!?

And time for the fans to show up. I was surprised how empty the stadium was last night. Obviously the players thought so as well.

The Attendance was listed as 22,520 for Tuesday Night's Game. Not bad for a school night on Tuesday considering the way the Bucs have been playing lately...uninspired...

The Pirates need to step it up!

Honestly, AJ needs to focus on the field and not worry about the seats. He needs to figure out how to be Cy Young for 7 innings, not 6 innings and then melt down for that other inning.

Between the Yinzers drowning their sorrows in IC Light over the Steelers loss and the bridges being closed because of possible jumpers because of the Steelers loss, it should be expected.
The ratings people said more people in the Pittsburgh viewing market watched the football game than the Pirates Monday night. And there was a significant amount of viewers of the preseason Pens game.

The Steelers will beat the Bucs in viewership every time, pennant race or not.

I was thinking about going to the game tonight but I'll probably stay home and do yard work.

Watching them fail to score inning after inning just isn't any fun. The games are the opposite of exciting.

Steelers outdrew the Pirates by a ratio of about 3.5 to 1, and the Pirates outdrew the Pens by a similar ration.

Not surprising. Steelers are very entrenched, and each game is a rare and special event. And the Pens game was a preseason game. Only the diehards watched.

I'm sure the Pirates know that these games are important and that it would be better if they won them.

Seriously. It's as if Bassoon forgot that there's a baseball team in the opposing dugout that is also trying to win.
