(In announcer voice) "Look at this, Adam LaRoche is calling his shot! Here comes the pitch, a swing and a miss and LaRoche strikes out for the 3rd time tonight"

I remember Don Mossi very well from my youth. He had those dominant ears-- THE BEST EVER. How could anyone forget those. It's something like the first time you saw boobs.

Can you help me? My recollection of him is with the Cleveland Indians. I thought he was on the staff of the 54 Indians when they were swept in the series by the Giants, even though they had 4 (count 'em) 20 game winners. Early Wynn, Mike Garcia, Bob Feller, and ... ??? Was it Herb Score?

Uh, no, gotta disagree on that one. For me, a somewhat different experience :)

The '54 Indians' rotation:

Bob Lemon 23-7, 2.72 ERA, 228 hits in 258 IP
Early Wynn 23-11, 2.73 ERA, 225 hits in 271 IP
Mike Garcia 19-8, 2.64 ERA, 220 hits in 258 IP
Art Houtteman 15-7, 3.35 ERA, 198 hits in 188 IP
Bob Feller 13-3, 3.09 ERA, 127 hits in 140 IP

Feller was 35, Wynn 34, Lemon 33, Garcia 30, and Houtteman 26.

Don Mossi was a rookie reliever and spot starter that year. Had a 1.94 ERA in 40 appearances (6-1, with 7 saves).

Herb Score did not join the Indians until 1955.

Only two MLB teams have had four 20-game winners in the same year: the 1920 White Sox (ironically, the year following the "Black Sox" scandal), and the '71 Orioles (Dave McNally 21-5, Pat Dobson 20-8, Jim Palmer 20-9, and Mike Cuellar 20-9).
