Who should play? Marte has more raw talent, speed, arm, power but will his hand allow him to perform in the lead off spot? Tabata has done a pretty darn good job and if Marte's hand hurts when he swings, how valuable can he be?

They will probably play Marte but they better watch his ABs. If he can't swing???

What do you guys think????

If both are 100%, that's tough. Tabata has certainly played well enough to start. Their BAs are pretty close. Marte's superior defense in left and his speed might be the ultimate deciders there.

Come playoff time, you don't want to be giving up doubles where there could be outs because Tabata couldn't make it. And who knows how many base-runners will hold up at 2nd or 3rd with Marte's cannon in the outfield.

I love everything about Marte's game. I hope the pain in his fingers becomes minimal and can make again a positive contribution.

And as far as Tabata goes, it seems that his game is rising to the occasion more so than during the earlier part of the season. Maybe he needs these "in-the-hunt-big-game" type of games for him to be more productive.

Over the long haul Marte.

However, they should probably ease him into a starting role. Why take Tabata out of an obvious 'groove'?

PH/PR Marte and put him in as a D sub or start him when an OFer need a breather.

Don't start him full-time again until Tabata falls off or until about a 10 days before the playoffs.

Marte if healthy. But have you seen him in BP? He can't swing without wincing. I can't see him being real productive right now.

If Marte isn't healthy, Tabata. Both boys at full strength, Marte without hesitation.

I just hope that Marte realizes that the post season isn't a given for his career. A sore hand isn't a great reason to miss the playoffs. He can be the difference for this team winning the world series. Who knows when the Pirates make it back...

It's not just a sore hand. He can't grip a bat, which is why you only see him as a pinch runner or on defense.

He can grip the bat. He just cant finish the swing. We had a player on our varsity team with the same injury. It was our Catcher. He could hit softly off a tee. He could hit some soft toss. He could not hit live pitching without pain. Its the heavy vibration of the bat off a fastball. At contact the top hand would simply let go at contact and not "Push through the swing", if you will. In essence..the only thing he would do is throw the bat at the ball.

The good news is the injury was a lot like turning it off. He simply couldn't do it and then one day...No pain. Good to go.

Hmmmm... the feel of the bat hitting the ball.

Not something I was ever too familiar with...

Speaking of Pedro, we're about due for one of his streaks.
