Gaby needs to start vs. LH'ers. This year, he has posted an OPS of .991 vs. lefties, tied for 12th highest among position players in MLB (with Goldschmidt) with at least 100 plate appearances, and tied for 1st (again, with Goldschmidt) among all 1st baseman in the majors.

Have you guys not figured out Hurdle is going to stick by his veterans. Almost always leaves AJ in too long, still plays Barmes too much, stuck by Inge way too long, and now this. It falls right in line. I think he views( and probably believes he has earned it) Morneau as an every day player. Hurdle is a wonderful motivator, but we all know his managerial skills are...well....questionable....just like this move.

Here is the thing. Maybe Gaby doesn't hit lefties like Rusin as good as he hits other types of lefties. Maybe Morneau hits lefties like Rusin better than other lefties.

I don't know what the answer is. I do know to look at OPS and just say it is black and white isn't probably accurate. I am not saying its not a good predictor, but there are always other factors.

84 and 61. Front runner for manager of the year. Questionable?

I don't think using a 32 year old's production during his prime seasons is a fair way to evaluate his current abilities.

The head injury is overplayed IMO. He fits the profile almost to a T of a guy who declines sharply after age 30.

Good for him having a big game yesterday, god knows he needed it badly, but let's not pretend like he's anywhere near the player he was in his age 26-30 years.

Maybe luck breaks his way again, but why make a decision based off of a hunch when you have evidence at hand?

What determines a players prime?

They'll probably give it to Mattingly or Farrell for managing all those egos in Beantown/L.A. and appeasing their insane fan bases.

Hey, look, I like Gabby and think he should play against lefties most of the time.

But, answer me this OPS men. When was the last HR Gabby hit? JM?

Your answer might lie in there somewhere's, along with the idea that JM has overcome the issues causing him to not hit lefties over the last couple years.

I feel a double-digit run game for the Pirates.

Age. Or steroids before they were banned.

Hamilton and Pujols are 2 of the latest examples of generationally great hitters who dropped off in the 30-31 range. Just happens.

The ball was moving the whole time. The ball was never in the glove But the umpire who is standing right there can't see it.

Amazing. The incompetence is mind-boggling.

Locke switching it up and going with the leadoff double instead of the leadoff walk.

This might have been discussed, but was there any reason Morneau took one of the most famous numbers in Pittsburgh sports?

He doubled his previous number with the Twins (33) since 33 is retired for Honus Wagner.

Seems to me it would have been a much nicer one-out rally if we didn't send Mercer to try and score on a ball hit back to the pitcher.
