Ralphie - Jones does not deserve to play because he was good in 2009 and 2012. He deserves to play if he is helping the 2013 Pirates.

So far this year, his contributions have been very, very mediocre. He hits a few right-handed pitchers (i.e., those that do not exploit his weakness for swinging at balls thrown at his feet). That number is few.

Morneau is better against right-handers right now. Gaby is and has been for the past several years infinitely better against left-handed pitchers.

It is what it is.

JM is looks better right now. He passes the eye test - even against lefties (2 of 3 hit HARD last night) - and has better numbers than Jones right now. Jones is just not even passing the eye test. He looks lost. JM looks and swings like he can get a hit at any time.

Feel free to crunch numbers any way you may like.

Morneau also made a huge catch last night when the cubs were still threatening for more. He contributes. That was a momentum catch. Average defensive first baseman aren't going to make that play.

And another thing..

I don't even like that Morneau is on this team. Jones is the one that deserves to be out there. He paid his dues and now he gets screwed over again by a player that is only marginally better than him.

This is the SECOND time Jones has had to take a back seat to Morneau.... He is actually the reason the Twins organization let Jones go.

He just came through an ALS series as the DH.

JM was brought in for a reason. Jones was doing nothing.

He had 5 months. That's a lot of playing time. The numbers are what they are.

And, oh by the way, Jones is starting in right field tonight. Marlon Byrd gets a night off.
