So was Jordy Mercer yesterday.

People didn't write on this board today that Jordy Mercer was "washed up."

Wasn't the mantra "They can't expect to keep going out there and scoring 1 or 2 runs..."

Well, here ya go! The Bucs are playing American League baseball now!

Strange.

I don't mind. Jones needs to stay sharp and Cutch needs to stay fresh. I just feel for Corsair not getting to see the MVP.

Yeah, but guys like Cutch need to be rested when the team is on the road. Pirate fans pay to see our stars!

Satisfying win. Total team effort up and down the roster. Morneau had a fantastic game. Perfect way to rebound from the Cards series. Go Brewers (puke).

Another great win. What a nail biter again. If you had told me we would be 3-3 going into St. Louis and Texas, I sure would take it on the road. But after the Cards swept us, this sweep was very important to the rest of our season.

WOW is it time to get real excited!!

Hurdle after game "Barmes was in position." Reports that Barmes and Burnett laughed it off. Funny how winning cures what ails.

Would have liked a better showing from the bullpen the last couple of games. My only complaint, really. All the starters showed up, which was nice.

Cubs and Padres for the next 8, both at PNC. Thinking 5-3 or 6-2 would be great.

His numbers drop quickly once he reaches his 25th batter. Was one of the "quarter horses" in an Insider article on "Thoroughbred" pitchers.

ERA rises by 1.07, the most drastic change among pitchers, and fastball velo drops by 1.7 MPH.

Very interesting stuff.

If that trend holds true (assuming it has this year, if not for years), and A.J. averages 4 batters/inning, he's pretty much only 'good' for six quality IP then.

Something to keep an eye on when the games really count.

Way to go Gomez. Let Texas back in the game. The Shark Tank has lost it's teeth... :?

Love the nickname and how it applies, but, honestly, the real 'shark tank' was Wilson-Melancon-Grilli, probably Watson and maybe a little Mazzaro.

Those are the five guys who will need to shoulder the burden when the games really count. The rest of the relievers, while alright on the whole, are more a 'dolphin tank'.

Morris has been too shaky all year to be considered a reliable option, 'five inning' Gomez is the long reliever/emergency starter (and has been fine in that role), Farnsworth just got on board and most of the rest have been average at best.

Nice!! I have seen a few episodes of that show. Missed the "Farnsworth" episode, however.

Given the two game lead over the Reds in the loss column, 6-2 over the next 8 is likely going to put a ton of pressure on the Reds. They'd have to sweep the Brewers and Astros on the road to pull even heading into the head-to-head series at PNC Park.

The Pirates also have played two fewer games than the Reds. Winning those two would be nice.

Don't the Bucs have a 3 game lead over the Reds in the loss column?
