Uh, if you're trying to give Cutch a day off, why not play him as the Designated Hitter?

Strange.

I don't mind. Jones needs to stay sharp and Cutch needs to stay fresh. I just feel for Corsair not getting to see the MVP.

I understand the temptation to play him as DH, figuring it's not as hard on the old bod, but it means he has to stay mentally focused in a way that a complete day off won't do. He'd still be available to pinch hit, but the total day off may give Cutch a break in the whole routine, from when he wakes up to what he eats for breakfast. Given we've taken two straight off the Rangers, today's day off makes sense.

So Pie is the starting CFer and Farnsworth is the closer. The Rangers are throwing Garza. Is the game at Wrigley today?

Sweep! Hopefully it can be done without Cutch. Is it Sunday?

Mercer earned another day of play with the show he put on. Back to bbbbb Barmes.

Today's game counts exactly the same as every other game.

Besides, the whole team had three days off over the weekend, because none of them showed up.

If a guy is struggling, fine, give him a day off. Cutch is only hitting about .450 for the month. WTF? :? :? :?

I'm guessing 'Cutches off days are pretty much pre-planned and this one was set back in April.

I don't really have a problem with Pie against a RH pitcher.

And, for the record, I was ticked last night that Mercer came out defensively for the 9th. Barmes ends that inning much sooner.

BS. Being a great defender doesn't make you subhuman. To say it's likely or a fact that Barmes makes that play on the chopper up the middle, and makes an accurate throw even if he gets to the ball is a huge stretch. That's not on Mercer at all. It's a ball that found a hole.

Not sure what you mean by subhuman, but I do believe that Barmes better first step and range gets to that ball, yes. Its a play he makes more often than not.

Love Martin's defense. Find his proclivity to take third strikes maddening. Beyond maddening.

I also.......for a Catcher, Martin seems to really struggle judging whether a pitch is strike or not.

Burnett is a good pitcher but he can't be too bright. The Pirates leave it up to the pitcher to pick the uniform and for him to choose black today is moronic. I know the black jersey has been his "thing" but come on, it hasn't exactly worked perfectly for him.

11-pitch at bat and lead-off walk in the second inning for Felix Pie. That's a very good plate appearance, folks.
