Would be nice to get some Cole some run support after the last couple of outings.

Ditto (but only after your post made me look closely). And I like it. Nice work IA; nice catch Bucfan.

Was confused as to why Alvarez is getting a rest day v. a righty, and then I looked it up and saw that he is 1 for 20 against Gallardo. Must be that.

Additionally, Pirates have very few left-handed starters set to go against them the rest of the season. Cardinals, Reds are righty-dominated, Cubs have Travis Wood, Rangers have Perez, Padres have nobody I can think of off the top of my head.

Lots of righty starters, and Pedro needs at least 1 day off this month, so I am guessing that Hurdle and company looked at his line vs. Gallardo and decided now was as good a time as any.

Great start here, even if they only get the one across.

Cole unlucky. Could've been strike 3 to Aoki, jammed Segura up and in and located a beautiful slider to Lucroy. Flare hits.

Almost another flare hit for Gomez. Ridiculous from the baseball Gods. Hopefully Cole continues to locate is rewarded

Looks like another 20/20 season. If he went 30/30 he would be an MVP LOCK (right now he's merely the favorite).

His stat line is still amazing. On pace to finish w/ 40+ doubles, 20+ HRs, 30+ SBs, and with just a hair over 100 K's...

Last year he finished third in MVP voting and the Bucs collapsed down the stretch.

If he finishes hot and depending on how many W's the Bucs end up with, he could run away with the MVP (again, it feels like right now he'd only win slightly definitively).

Mercer has played in only 1 of the last 6 games now, including this one. Did I miss something? Is he hurt or did he get himself selected for Hurdle's doghouse???

Barmes has been pretty stellar on defense for the last couple of weeks. Really bad at the plate, though, other than the 3-run homer against San Fran.

Good God, man, Gallardo is awful. 88 mph garbage in the dirt, never throws a strike on the inner half, afraid as a little girl at a spider festival to throw hard over the plate.

Stand on top of the dish and mash his soft-ass garbage back up the middle.

I am really enjoying the Marlon Byrd era this season. 7 games and 6 RBIs thus far.

Hurdle's preference for veterans down the stretch (see also: the way Mercer and Ciriaco were treated in August/September the last two years).

And there was a large contingent of fans who criticized him the first 4 months or so of the season for not repeating last year's performance/statline. "He hasn't been as dominant as usual", etc. type comments, even though for most of the year he was performing better than he had in his career outside of last year's potential career year.

Some fan is literally yelling the location of the catcher during the pitch. Great sportsmanship.
