I remember reading somewhere in '91, (the Yearbook, a newspaper article, I don't know where) a piece on Doug Drabek and Jim Leyland praised Drabek with an anecdote. He mentioned that the team was in a long road trip and included a series in Montreal, and the bullpen was spent and some in the lineup were wearing down. Leyland basically told Drabek, "You're on your own tonight; I gotta leave you in no matter what happens. And Drabek went out and pitched a four hitter.

I have a hunch last night was this kind of game for Hurdle and the Pirates. With Liriano and Burnett going Saturday and Sunday, Marte still out and Pedro getting a needed rest against a left hander, Hurdle looked at this as a "Lose 54" and he hoped to get the best out of Morton, especially with that lineup behind him against Baumgarner.

Way to step in up Charlie.

Good job Charlie. Now we need Locke and Aj to get it together. Especially Locke.

I don't know were you're getting "game is lost, Morton pitching". He's probably the 3 rd best starter they have right now, maybe 2. He just keeps getting better and better as his command comes back.

I realize that. I was saying that with that lineup behind him, it was going to be more on Morton and he stepped up to the challenge. That's all.
