The pirates are idiots for not signing tanner. He has a lot of potential and the Pirates are too damn cheap to sign the guy. They say how they are after talent but then they get a great player in the 2nd round draft him, then dont sign him therefore wasting the pick. This guy has talent, you cant deny it if he had no talent he wouldnt be projecting so high in next years draft.

They're projecting him high if he is healthy and can get people out and doesnt kill his arm in the process throwing to a bunch of Independent League guys who arent good enough to fill a minor league roster for an MLB team...

It was a risk for the Pirates taking him when they did and for the money, but Tanner thought he was worth more then, and will be worth even more if fully healthy and recovered...But the Pirates got the pick back next year's draft, just the same as having Tanner missing 08 rehabbing his arm

Assuming thats what happens, Ill buy that point... tho I still feel its unwise, given our needs, to draft anyone so high that youre not certain you want to sign.

Here is what Huntington said after not signing him:

"It became clear that Tanner's financial expectations were not in line with the risks presented by Tanner's current status as a pitcher in the early stages of a rehabilitation program," Huntington said. "Unfortunately, Tanner's rehabilitation program timeline changed dramatically from what his representative presented to us prior to the draft. Had Tanner been able to demonstrate that he was fully recovered, we are confident that we could have found common ground."

Since the Pirates don't have the ability to perform a physical on a player prior to the draft, it seems that it was a very smart risk to take, if Huntington is being truthful that they were led to believe he was healthier than he turned out to be.

Fair enough, but it seems like hes good to go now, doesnt it? Could Huntington have been spinning? I dunno.

It's a foregone conclusion that Stephen Strasburg is going #1 to the Nationals. 2-3-4 are pretty consensus too but not in any particular order.

We'll end up with either Grant Green, UNC 1B/OF Dustin Ackley or UNC Pitcher Alex White.
