While all of us wait for what appears to be some much improved talent to migrate up to PNC (McCutcheon, Tabata, Alvarez, et al), I think we need to be very careful about the timing, espeically for those who may be very close to being ready. Here are my top reasons for leaving Andrew McCutcheon at Indy for at least half of the year:
1) We are going to lose with him or without him.
2) He is still only 21 years old
3) I want to see what we have with Morgan...even if he is a trade piece by July, he could end up as coveted as Duffy was for a while.
4) Why start Andrew's service clock running now...maximize his time with us by keeping him back closer to Alverez's arrival
5)Seeing what he does with having to stay at Indy could be very telling.

I agree he hasnt been a world beater down there and could use more seasoning. And as you say, no rush.

I concur as well. In addition to Morgan, we also have Pearce, Moss, and possibly someone like a Baldelli. Let them try to maximize their value as either trade bait or a 3rd outfielder alongside Nate and McCutchen (or 4th outfielder once Tabata is up). 2009 should be used to figure out what we have and where we need to go, not to strive for 75 wins by rushing prospects.

I have no problem letting McCutchen play in AAA again if he needs the work, but if he comes out of Spring Training and looks to be ready to be an everyday player, then I say lets put him in the lineup and ket him play...

This makes a lot of sense. It's not like we need to give him an audition in the Majors to see what he can do. We are certain that he is going to be a great player for us.

And if we're wrong about that, we're screwed anyway. So yeah, no rush whatsoever. Let's find out about these other guys this year.

I agree on all accounts, especially since there is nothing amazing about his .770 OPS last year in AAA. Actually, he hasn't had an OPS over .800 since 2006 which tells me the Pirates should slow down a little and let his power catch up to him as he fills out his body and adjusts to the higher levels of the minor leagues.

Just a thought, anyone interested in Andruw Jones in an ultimate buy low situation? The Dodgers are willing to buy him out right now which means they would be very willing to eat a large portion of the 15 million he is owed next year. Yes, he has been trending downwards rapidly the past two years, but you don't lose talent like his overnight for no good reason. I don't know of any major health problems and if his 828 major league OPS is still somewhere in there, why not take a chance? Who could he potentially block, Nyjer Morgan? Cutch needs another year in AAA, why not give left field to a former super star who is only 32 this coming season?

Hell no to Andruw Jones.

His best years are far behind him. If we want a past his prime outfielder, we should follow the advice on my signature and sign Barry Bonds.

1. None
2. Nyjer Morgan

Why leave the player with most potential in your organization wasting away in the minor leagues? He will get the most experience from playing in the majors.

You're right. Pedro Alvarez should start opening day for the Bucs at third.

:D

Pedro and Andrew are diffrent. Andrew played last year in AAA he doesnt need AAA anymore he is ready for the majors...And heck I bet alvarez would play better then Andy Laroche.

But they are the same age. Pedro played his baseball in the SEC, Andrew in minor league baseball.

And Andrew wasn't very good in AAA baseball last season.
