Multiple reports ou of new York indicate that the Bombers want to trade one of their extra outfielders. Hideki Matsui, Johnny Damon, Nick Swsiher, and Xavier Nady are said to be the names New York is dropping in the hat. Those same reports say that Yanks would prefer to keep leadoff man Damon and deal iron gloved Matsui, but are open to offers for solid utility players or prospects.

I bring this up because Nick Swisher is a guy who really intrigues me. He's a pretty versatile player who could man either corner outfield spot or spend some time at first base. Plus he's a switch hitter who's averaged .244/28/86 with a .451 slugging and .354 OBP. Now those aren't Cooperstown stats, but they're pretty nice numbers considering Pittsburgh is headed in to a Spring Training where they don't know who their corner outfielders will be and with a first baseman who doesn't wake up for the first month.

I'm not saying Pittsburgh would be a player in any trade talks, but I like guys like Swisher and he could help out in the short term.

I would love to see us get Swisher, but what would it cost?

So the Pirates would be picking up a switch-hitting version of Craig Wilson, likely for prospects they can't afford to part with?

I do believe this board would 'splode.

Im not a Swisher fan. His 2006 showed promise, but hes been tailspinning ever since. Especially troubling is hes hit 40 points lower (.205) during his career with runners on. Guys gonna hit under .250 and wont reach 25 homers, so whats really the point?

I'd rather give up $4 mil a year and get Baldelli than give up a prospect for Swisher. Plus, Swisher is going to get expensive very soon. I'd rather just spend a little more and get Dunn or Burrell (Yes, I know that isn't going to happen).

BBF ... don't count out the Pirates just yet. They are in the running for Dunn and Burrell.

Well, maybe for Burl Ives (beloved performer and voice of Frosty the Snowman) and John Donne [pronounced "done"], the great English poet.

Well, I guess I'll take it. I can't imagine that Ives will overslide second base nearly as much as Nyjer, at least. These guys might actually be improvements...

And if we try to blame Burl or Donne for a loss, we will be reminded ... "No man is an island unto himself."
