Hello,
I'm new to the board.

I believe:

1. Huntington has done a good job and Hurdle has not.
2. GI Jones should play over Gaby Sanchez. Always!
3. Liriano may be the best pitcher for the money in baseball
4. Acquiring Stanton would put the Buc's in the playoffs this year.
5. Acquiring Stanton would make the Pirates less than mediocre in a few years.
6. If the Angels fall a little farther behind, Mark Trumbo would be a nice addition to the PBC.
7. Marte trys to look like a young Clemente. And I like it!
8. Cardinals SUCK!

Welcome.

Can't argue much with any of your points except #2. Sanchez kills lefties, and lefties turn Jones into Brandon Inge.

P.S. Attended Kennedy's concert in 1981, and Clash concert 1982.

Jeez, I am dating myself. Figuratively, of course.

Generally agree, Mr. Rotten, though you can't bat G.I. Jones against left-handers. He's a tiger against righties but a pussycat against southpaws.

Here's my problem. GI Jones has less at bats against left handers (16) than AJ Burnett does. Gaby Sanchez has 115 at bats against right handers to which he has hit .200 and provided 3 HR and 15 RBI's. Jones against right handers has 8 HR and 37 RBI's.

My problem is that Sanchez is taking significant AB's from Jones on the right side. As much as 1/3rd of the right side at bats are swallowed by a guy who hits .200 there.

Obviously Hurdle thinks Sanchez is better

I think gaby sanchaz stinks, especially recently. If it were up to me, I would replace him with a minor league prospect.

Jones has 520 plate appearances against lefties in his career. That's pretty much a full season. He's hitting .193, with a .233 OBP and a .344 slugging percentage. He has never hit them. I don't see any reason to believe that he'll suddenly figure them out at the age of 32.

Meanwhile, Sanchez is destroying them. I'll take Sanchez with a lefty on the mound.

There is no way that Sanchez is getting 1/3 of Jones's ABs against righties.

Went back and checked. Sanchez has started over Jones against righties three times. Two of those were against the same pitcher, Estrada of the Brewers. I seem to remember Hurdle explaining that it was because Jones sucks against Estrada, or maybe it was Sanchez kills him. Either way, Jones has lost somewhere around 12 ABs to Sanchez against righties. That isn't even close to significant, let alone 1/3.

Same here, except I saw the Kennedys in 83.

Saw Black Flag in 84.

Circle Jerks in 84.

Lots of good punk bands hit Knoxville in the 80's.

Not at all. In fact, Jones has 81 more ABs than Gaby does on the season. You're over-thinking it ... it's a platoon for two players with uneven splits. Nothing more, nothing less.

Do you guys play fantasy baseball? Yahoo or ESPN? Doesnt matter. Pull up 1st baseman stats and then seperate by most at bats. Pirates first basemen are 29th. Platooning at 1st base is a deficiency.

All Pirate first basemen are combining for an OPS of .779. Basically, all Pirate first basemen are Anthony Rizzo or Brendan Belt. If Garrett Jones starts to hold up his end of the platoon, they'll have a combined average NL first baseman. But so far Sanchez is doing a good job, but Jones has been a disappointment.
