They probably said it after he chased that pitch that bounced before the plate. I'm guessing it was then because I said the exact same thing

Yep, that was the one, damn thing was outside also. Marte almost redeemed himself but alas it was only to the warning track.

And where has Russell Martin been? He's really been struggling at the plate of late.

Martin's SO and Sanchez's pop up ended a promising 8th(?) inning

Gaby is a wasted at bat. Either strikes out or grounds into a dp anytime we have runners in scoring position. Martin had been really struggling at the plate lately.

I edited my post because of The Shark's post. I was grilling tonight and missed his AB. Saw on line that he K'd and assumed that he didn't try to bunt. Shark's post makes me think that he tried and failed.

I'm in full agreement with a bunt attempt if he did. Marte's a decent bunter, good hitters follow and offense is struggling.

Does every pinch hit have to be a double switch? Tabata is the only one hitting yet the past two games he has been taken out of the game when we are behind.

Depends on the situation. You don't want to have to PH again next inning because you have a pitcher coming up to bat.

But why take out Tabata? Besides our pinch hitters are sub .200. We can't do much worse letting the pitcher hit.

Several times in recent games his double switch was weak. The other included Inge and he batted again with no results either AB.

Inge makes me cringe. He needs to be sent back to the farm.

I don't know what trade value gaby has, but I say get rid of him too.

Ummmmm ..... what exactly would you call getting on base 9 times in his previous 21 plate appearances (going into tonight)?

Last few games he hasn't hit squat. I think the world of Martin. Why? Because the alternative is fort and Barajas last year.

I'm pretty sure 21 plate appearances only encompasses a few games.....

He didn't get on base during Saturday's game. Slacking ....

I'm in full agreement with a bunt attempt if he did. Marte's a decent bunter, good hitters follow and offense is struggling.

Watched the first half of the game again on the DVR this morning before work . . . I'd strongly disagree with anyone who thought that Marte's bunt attempt in the third inning was a sacrifice attempt. There is no doubt in my mind that he was looking to bunt for a base hit. The fact that he didn't attempt another bunt is only further evidence that the bench wasn't calling for a sacrifice in that situation. If the bench wanted to sacrifice the runners to second and third, they would not have called off the bunt on a 0-1 count.

While it is certainly possible that Hurdle or Bannister told Marte to check where the third baseman was playing and, if he was playing deep, to consider bunting for a base hit, my money is on Marte making the decision on his own.

I certainly understand letting Marte swing away there and I can't characterize it as a poor tactical decision. I would've played it differently though and given Tabata and Cutch a chance with 2 RISP.
