And the Pirates' had Cutch's .953 OPS last year. That's all that matters. .953 production is .953 production. It just so happens that Cutch wasn't surrounded with as much talent in Pittsburgh as Posey was in San Francisco.

Right, but just like there's no reason to expect Posey to duplicate last year, there's no reason to expect Cutch to duplicate his year.

Both had inflated numbers due to unbelievable BABIPs. Posey was bolstered by having a phenomenal pitching staff. Cutch's staff sputtered and imploded.

Posey's fallen off, Cain is scuffling, and the Giants are now 7 games under .500. But they had a brilliant pitching staff last year and a star player have a career year. Hats off to them, but it's unreasonable to expect the Pirates to do the same.

You can certainly hope, but it's not a precedent I'd say is particularly strong.

Very good outing for Jeff Locke.

7 IP, 3 hits, 3 BBs, 4 Ks, 2 ERs

He looked solid out there. Now if only the Pirates' offense would show up...

All things considered, close enough.

That was Locke both continuing to defy [x]FIP and yet 'regressing to mean'.

Better than a hit. All told, a very good outing for Locke.

It would be nice if our offense had guys who consistently took walks, too.

That's half their issue, IMO. Too impatient.

Would be nice if Snider could come through. He's due.

Just can't get that clutch hit right now. It's not often that
a hit like that one will get robbed.

Cutch has hit a lot of hard balls that have been caught this year...

There's just nothing you can do about that. That's a great hit, right at a guy.

Does every pinch hit have to be a double switch? Tabata is the only one hitting yet the past two games he has been taken out of the game when we are behind.

Another line drive for an out.

Lady luck has not favored your Pittsburgh Pirates tonight. Out-hitting Oakland 9 to 3, yet losing 2 to 1 after 8 innings.
