Pedro's first ASG, in his home town no less, having the best season of his career and 3 players each with a little over half his HR total are in the derby instead of him. I'm disappointed for Pedro and Goldschmidt. David Wright looks like a self serving chump right now. I hope he Bays out.

Can someone "tweet" AJ and tell him to hit Wright in the ribs just before the All-Star break? I hope Wright gets pulled after one AB and is replaced by....Pedro. Hey, Clint...give your buddy Bochy a call.

I'm glad. Homerun derby ruins peoples real game power stroke. A year removed from last years derby, Cutch is on pace for 17 homers on the season and seems to try and pull when loading up on pitches.

The top five current NL Home Run leaders are as follows:

1. Carlos Gonzalez, COL 24
2. Domonic Brown, PHI 23
3. Pedro Alvarez, PIT 22
4. Paul Goldschmidt, ARI 21
5. Carlos Beltran, STL 19

I think Wright's selections were poor choices, except for Carlos Gonzalez.

If you go by home runs per at-bat, Harper's up there. He's not a bad choice.

The weird one is Cuddyer, but I read that they knew each other growing up, so it's understandable.

And besides, the derby is all spectacle, and who do you think more of America wants to see? Harper or Alvarez?

As for Cuddyer. Well, it's good to know the captain, and I suppose captaincy has its privileges...

Can't blame Wright. I'd probably pick my buddy too. It would have been fun to watch Pedro hit in the derby though.

FWIW, couldn't one use that same logic for why Puig should be in the ASG game?

Not disappointed.

The Josh Hamilton interview while Cutch was batting last year has forever killed any interest I have in the Derby. Well, at least any that ESPN has a hand in.

I have. I think Puig should be in the game.

Not ahead of Marte.

I've seen the nightclub dance that is Puig chasing a fly ball.

Again, the All Star game is not about picking the best 8 players and a pitcher. It's about spectacle. Now, time was, the spectacle the game possessed was players from across the leagues going head to head. The game's not so riveting anymore, which is a shame since of any major American sport, it's the all star game that most resembles real action, and there has to be a new draw. And that's letting people see Puig as opposed to Marte.

I don't really care that much that he won't be in it, would of just been nice to see a Pirate get that kind of exposure. Especially since he's a guy who's made for the HR derby.

All and all, the manner in which they do the participants is moronic anyways. Why do "teams"??? Just get the best power hitters in baseball and let them showcase. I don't give a shit which "team" wins.

Have you seen him score from second on a GB?

Maybe next year if he's the captain again he can include his 3 year old daughter*. That would be a nice touch.

*That was hyperbole. I don't know whether or not Wright has a 3 year old daughter :D
