While I don't think the future should be mortgaged, anyone who doesn't think we need a big time hitter is mistaken. It sucks that every time we get to extras we hope the pitching can hold out until Cutch or Pedro come up does not make us a contender.

I thought it was stupid to take Tabata out, too. Guy's 2-3 with a 2B and 2 BB on the game, plus a solid past few games as well.

Think our best hope is that Marte, Walker, and Tabata step up. We know what we have with Martin and the 1B platoon....we're going to get above average production from them over the course of the season.

Walker's the key, IMO. He's got some room for progression. It's an offense ranked in the 20's....I think it's going to take more than one bat to really give them a jump start.

Hurdle overmanages sometimes. Why take tabata out?

I don't think you can ask much more of Marte. RF is a black hole. I'd keep riding Tabata...Snider is a mess.

I totally agree about Walker. I was just talking about that. He is usually a doubles machine, but not so much this year. He has to pick it up.

I know first base is on par with the league average, but they need more from Jones.

They aren't going to get some huge upgrade to the offense in a trade, so walker, and to a lesser extent Jones have to pick it up.

The last four losses have all been 'close'. One play could have swung each game in the Bucs favor.

That doesn't losing tolerable, but such is baseball. Teams are going to lose their fair share of games.

Bucs still 19 above, still tied for best W% in MLB, still tied for first in NL Central, still have 75 games left.

Frustrating stretch, but now it's time for a home one. A's are tough, but they'll be losing three hours and facing a Bucs team who have been pretty good at home.

Splitting these last six before the break (at least) would cap off a great first half.

Going to need the bats to react w/ RISP to acheive that.

Are they as good as there record? They won a lot of games from behind against teams bullpens. There pitching is what has carried them. Are they headed for another second half slide? It seems any losing pitcher they play, they seem to resurrect themselves against our line up.

My biggest concern is the offense.

The offense is concerning, like someone said, we are set with marte, mccutchen,Martin, Alvarez and the 1b platoon, we need the ss position to step up offensively and tabata to stay healthy and hit .280.... But the key is walker, he needs to step it up and be that clutch bat he used to be..... Snider and Inge are a mess and I would think about putting snider down bc he is better as a starter and tabata is the starter and press would be better off the bench... Oh and Inge needs to go I think we are better off with 24 then 25 and him being the 25th

The offense seems to be really hot and cold with hardly any middle ground. I'm going to do some investigation into the clutch hitting when I get a chance too.

3rd to last in BA with RISP. But, we're also near the bottom in team batting average so it's not a huge shocker.

We have 3 with the a's and the cards have 3 with the Astros..... If we are in first place on Thursday I will be shocked.... Still 75 games to go 29 wins to end the streak. 29-46 will break it...

Just heard the cubs traded Scott Hairston to the nats. For a minor league pitcher. Why couldn't they have traded him before this weekends series?

Joey Tabats has been very hot lately. I also wondered the same.

Any chance maybe Polanco is up in September? Is he in AA or AAA right now?

So I guess that would be far more ambitious with a promotion than the Bucs have shown to be.

Just ride Tabats for the next month and see what he can do.

Or maybe bring Lambo up in September? Hell, do it in August if he keeps hitting in AAA.

FWIW, it will be interesting to see if Lambo continues to rake in AAA. I would love to see Tabata continue to hit and have him the established right fielder and have Lambo (if he continues to hit) brought up as the 4th outfielder and bench depth. I was really hoping for Snyder to get it figured out this year but my hopes are waning on that front.

This was an excruciating loss. Between stranding two runners at third with less than two outs, Jones' error, and Hurdle allowing Watson to pitch to Hairston (all that guy does is hit home runs off of left-handed pitchers), the Pirates had a TON of opportunities to win that game. It's days like yesterday that make me temper my expectations for this crew...
