Bad loss. Awful Cubs team, Edwin Jackson not having a good year, Edwin Jackson was a dick about signing with the Pirates, Cubs line-up is awful, Cubs pen is awful.

And the Bucs get dominated.

Bucs losing there swagger. Gotta bounce back tomorrow. Our hitting has been atrocious.

Jackson is a mediocre pitcher, like I said. Look at his all time record. But he dominated us today.

2nd time he's mowed us over. Some guys are just a bad matchup I guess.

Rough up Villanueva tomorrow and it's all good.

I am nauseous thinking about the fact that Clint will believe that Barmes is a good match-up against Villaneuva, and have Inge fill in at 2nd for Walker, such that Pirates send up 9 sure outs.

Well, I'm thinking at a minimum we'll be stuck with one of Clint/Barmes in there if Walker was hurt. Might be best to bump Mercer to 2nd. Blech. Hope Neil's okay.

Barmes isn't a good match up against a t ball stand.

Edwin Jackson's 2009-2012 WAR - 12.9
Kyle Loshe's 2009-2012 WAR - 7
Yovani Gallardo's 2009-2012 WAR - 12.2
AJ Burnett's 2009-2012 WAR - 8.4
Wandy Rodriguez's 2009-2012 WAR - 10.6

Hardly mediocre.

Ok a career record of 74-81. Era 4.49 and he's played for 8 teams in 10 years? The guy is mediocre. He's a journeyman pitcher but we've made him look like cy young.

Gio Gonzalez's 2009-2012 WAR - 12.3 (Note: 98.2 innings in 2009 with 1.0 WAR)
CJ Wilson's 2009-2012 WAR - 13.9
Matt Cain's 2009-2012 WAR - 14.7
Johnny Cueto's 2009-2012 WAR - 11.2
James Shields' 2009-2012 WAR - 13.6

Here's the whole list for 2009-2012. Notice that Jackson is on the first page.

Sorry, I look at his career stats. Think he's a middle of the road pitcher. Nothing special.

Okay, from 2007 (his first year throwing over 100 ML innings) through 2012 he is 34th in WAR for pitchers.

Any way you slice it he's far from mediocre.

And he's entitled to demonstrate that his opinion is far more informed and based in statistical fact run yours. Which he just did.

Jackson has been very mediocre THIS YEAR. Fact is, the Pirates have hit a patch where their offense is in the doldrums.

I had a bad feeling all day about this game. Especially when Morton obviously didn't have his control early on and kept putting guys on base.

Oh well, lose 54 move on, still 20 games over .500, beat em Bucs and all that.

Maybe explains walkers struggles. Damn cheating umps, gave cubs an extra out. Fort can't throw anyone out for the life of him.

I think he threw out Borbon, and the umpire @#$*ed the call.

Not that giving the Cubs five outs that inning hurt or anything ...

Watched the replay a number of times and freeze framed it when Borbon hit bag. Looks like he beat the tag ... barely.

Help me though. Where was the 5th out?

Walk, line out, stolen base, ground out, home run.
The walk is on Morton and the poor pitch location to Soriano is on Morton and/or Fort.

I really don't think that the umps cost the Bucs that inning.

I believe Borbon was out. Tag down on hand before his wrist starts to give when he contacts the bag.

Further, on stolen base attempts where the tag is down before the runner reaches, the umpire calls the runner out 95% of the time. On bang-bang plays, the guy is out the vast majority of the time and that is why any doubt about such plays generally go to out calls.

Finally, the 5th out was the bogus time-out on Rizzo's fly ball. Morton was literally in his wind-up when the 1st base umpire inexplicably called time. Morton deals, Rizzo swings, lazy fly ball.

The fact that Morton got him a 2nd time means that he had to get 5 outs - the three that counted, Borbon and Rizzo the 1st time.
