There's your key to the second half, right there. AJ's health. The good thing is his arm wasn't hurt, so if he is mechanically sound coming back, his arm ought to be strong.

Cole to AAA? Gomez to the pen with Reid getting sent to AAA?

I think Cole was guaranteed headed to AAA in favor of Morton when Wandy came back, but do we give Gomez the nod over him, too?

Gomez has the numbers, but man they just scream Kevin Correia......

At least if he does get sent to the bullpen, that was his original role anyway and he wouldn't pout about it like Correia did (to be fair, I said this the other day but I didn't really blame Correia for being upset about it even though I agreed with the decision).

Yeah agree with all of that. I just don't know if they gamble on Gomez sustaining this and keep him in the rotation, because right now he's undoubtedly producing better than Cole. Or do they keep Cole in the rotation and bump Gomez to the pen.

It'll be interesting to see how they approach it. I think Cole will be excellent, just not sure it'll be this year.

AJ wasn't pitching well when he went down. Of course injury could have been the reason. The way Morton pitched today, I might keep Cole instead.

Reid should be the one sent to AAA. Cole should stay in the rotation.

Really? His last start he went 8 1/3 giving up 4 hits and 2 runs....start before that was his only start of the season where he gave up more than 3 earned runs....for the whole season....Must respectfully disagree that he wasn't pitching well... 8-) 8-) 8-)

Whats his record? Yes I do know he didn't get much run support. But he got rocked several times.

What do you consider 'rocked'? You kind of react every time a pitcher gives up a run, so...

A.J. has given up >four runs only once this year (and three or more runs five times): http://www.baseball-reference.com/playe ... &year=2013

He has 10 QS in 14 GS. Three of those non-QS were in his first five GS.

A.J. hasn't 'gotten rocked', the dude's is a rock.

He had a few rough starts. I like AJ don't get me wrong. One of my favorite players. But he wasn't having a typical burnett year up until that point. I wish every player on our team had his intensity and attitude. but 4-6 record isn't stellar by any means.

Judging a SP by record is just plain dumb.

Cole Hamels is 3-11. Stephen Strasburg is 4-6. Enough said.

By looking at his stats, there is one game where he gave up 6 runs all year...

He's right. It's based entirely off what your team does behind you. RBIs and Saves are equally useless.

The fact that he is back is a very good thing.

His line is:

4-6/3.12 ERA/99 K's/35 Walks/1.13 WHIP

He's gotten very little run support so far this season. He's lost with scores of 3-1, 0-1, 1-2, & 1-2 this season.

He's going to have bad games, every single pitcher has bad games throughout a season. But if he can get run support, then he can end up with a 13-16 win season by the time October gets here.

I just hope that when Wandy comes back, Cole doesn't get sent back down. I like him, and having guys like Burnett & Wandy up here to learn from will do nothing but help the kid. There's no experience like big league experience.

I just hope he comes back.

It might sound crazy, but if they can maintain their Pirate averages then a top-four of:
A.J.
Wandy
Liriano
Cole

...feels like one you can 'go to war' with. That's a "coast reason" rotation.
