Fact or Fiction?

Do the Pirates strand runners at a greater rate than the average MLB team?

This is one of those games where the Bucs needed the SP to throw a gem.

Locke could have mowed these old Phillies down and gotten his ERA closer to 1.00, but it was a solid effort by Cumpton.

The bats just haven't been able to deliver tonight.

2 errors, some base running mistakes and a ton of stranded runners yet we were still in it. You can't expect to win every night. Regroup and focus on winning the series.

Frustrating loss. Bats need to wake up! Last few games they've been quiet.

I was fine with Mercer's decision to go for two. It took a perfect throw to get him.

I chalk this game up mostly to bad luck. We hit some balls hard but weren't rewarded.

I also absolutely hate the batting order. Stacking up your righties then your lefties makes it too easy for the other team. Walker should be in the 2 hole.

Marte
Walker
Cutch
Alvarez
Martin
Jones
Mercer
Snider

I agree. Hurdle's recent preferred batting order allows opposing managers to make easy decisions about when to bring in a lefty or righty reliever. Walker should hit in the 2-hole. I'd still bat Jones 4th and Alvarez 6th.

Yeah, because its not like Walker can switch sides of the plate or anything.

Better idea: send him home.

I don't understand what point you're making. Of course we're aware that Walker switch hits. My suggested lineup is of course against a righty. Against a lefty Walker would hit much lower in the lineup.

I wonder if the same folks who made the inevitable "maybe he's alright ..." comments after he hit his first HR in late June still support that claim. .125 over his last ten, striking out in his last three PH opportunities (and GIDP in the PH before that). Sorry, no external abstract factors like veteran leadership or clubhouse chemistry trump being that terrible.
