First 25% of the season . . . 24-17.
Second 25% of the season . . . 27-13.
At halfway point, the Bucs sit at 51-30 and have the following leads: (a) two game lead on the Cardinals for NL Central lead; (b) five and one-half game lead over the Reds for the first wildcard playoff spot and (c) a 10 game lead over the Nationals for the second wildcard playoff spot.

They've played 41 at home (28-13). They've played 40 on the road (23-17).

81 down. 81 to go. That's a ton of baseball left. An absolute ton. But . . . warts and all . . . the Bucs are setting the pace.

Here's the next "quarter mile" in this mile long race.

Phils - home - 3
Cubs - away - 3
A's - home - 3
Mets - home - 3

ALL STAR BREAK

Reds - away - 3
Nats - away - 4
Marlins - away - 3
Cards - home - 5
Rockies - home - 3
Marlins - home - 3
Rockies - away - 3
Cardinals - away - 3
Diamondbacks - home - 3

That's 42 games. 13 series. 23 home games. 19 road games. There are some teams on the upcoming schedule that a contender must beat in a 3 game series. There are also huge series against the top NL Central teams and against the NL West's best team. I'll go out on a limb and suggest that these next 42 games/13 series will be the defining stretch of games for this team. Do they pull back? Do they stand pat? Do they start to pull away? My current predication? I'm guessing that they will go 22-20 in this stretch and will be heading into the last lap at 73-50 and will be a couple of games behind the Cardinals and with a 6 game lead over the closest wildcard team.
