This game is potentially big in his development. He kept it somewhat together in the first instead of a full scale disaster. To potentially get out of it and still get a W despite being nowhere near his best is big. All part of the evolution of an ace.

Undoubtedly. Nothing he's done so far has convinced me that he'll be anything but excellent in the future.

Was shocked he got the Lucroy call....thought for sure with the ump's strike zone that was a ball. Way to keep attacking though.

I really hope PNC Park has gotten in Jean Segura's head. He was showing too many signs of being a Pirate Killer earlier in the year.....

I think the two plays that changed this game were the diving catch by McCutchen followed directly by Martin throwing out Aoki at 2nd base... at that point the Brewers were up 3-0 and had a runner on base. Those two plays got the fans into the game early and the Pirates went on to score 7 in the very next frame.

I think you're right. Alot of times there can be a confirmation-bias type of reaction to things like that but Martin gave a little look out there after the out and I remember thinking the worm may have turned.

The Reds trail 3-0 in the 2nd inning...Cueto only lasted 1 inning... he only gave up 1 run so im guessing he is injured.

I agree, he was on the verge of really having the game get away from him and the D picked him up in a big way. Was able to settle down and merely scatter baserunners the rest of the way.

Edit: Yes Cueto was taken out a few batters in in. Got an excited text from somebody at the game saying Cueto was hurt and the Rangers had a quick strike first inning.

Also, Starling Marte can f***ing fly.

Nice jog to first Marte.

When that happened I was taken aback because everything I've seen from Marte has been the exact opposite of a loafer. His response has been spectacular. This team is fun.

Injuries to their SP staff is their (perhaps lone) achilles heel. They miraculously got all five starters through all of last year healthy and when that happens they're still the clear cut division favorite in my mind. Granted, if someone like Cueto were to miss a significant amount of time (he has already had one lengthy DL trip this year), moving Cingrani back to the rotation gives them a nice boost. But otherwise their depth is not very good in that department, hence having to sign guys like Mark Prior who hadn't been in the majors since 2006 (he actually pitched when I saw AAA Indianapolis play their Columbus affiliate back in April) and Armando Galarraga in the off-season.

Yeah, Cingrani is very, very good. However, Dusty Baker is his manager so it's entirely possible that he over throws him before he's stretched out and ruins him.

But yeah the Reds are very good talentwise. They could've been terrifyingly good the past couple of years if they weren't managed by a bowl of Jello.

To win 90 games with Zack Cozart batting 2nd is a true testament to the ability of the rest of the team.

The Pirates could realistically surpass their 2010 win total before the All-Star break.

This front office has still made no improvements, though. Matching their highest win total since 1992 is an abject failure.
