Read Austin Meadows is in Pittsburgh and might or has already signed. Nice draft class by the front office.

He's apparently signed, but the Pirates won't confirm it publicly. Press Conference tomorrow though so I'm thinking they just want to give the guy his moment.

Sawchik saying the deal is for right around slot.

They also signed JaCoby Jones today for a bit under slot. 2B/OF from LSU who Baseball America tabbed as the top athlete in the draft from the college ranks (Meadows was tops in the HS category). Big flaw is the swing....going to need overhauled but he apparently can defend, has big time pop when he makes contact, and a lot of speed.

GCL team could be a lot of fun for LetsGoMarauders with Meadows, McGuire, and Arbet on the field and Wyatt Mathisen rehabbing his shoulder.

Edit: Here's a video of Meadows, mostly BP/Home Run Derby/All-Star Game at-bats. He has a sweet swing.

Can't tell if it's a weird angle, or if he throws weird.

Got some money left to go over slot on someone.

Meadows and McGuire have beautiful lefty swings. Watch how their hands stay "tight" to their bodies, the barrel stays behind the hands, the head stays still, and the hips turn and continue through the point of contact.

Those swings generate contact + power.

I can't tell either but agreed that it looks like he kinda short arms his throw or something. But, I was watching another breakdown where the guy was saying he was making perfect one-hop throws at the showcase so what do I know?

He'll be at Pirate City on Monday playing with the GCL Pirates.
Will attempt some pictures

I wish that he didn't appear to be pulling everything. Surely, BP should be about refining things that may not come naturally?

Hit it where it's pitched. I threw a ton of BP over the years. Most of it was middle, so pulling BP pitches was common.
