1. Met up with Bucfan, his son, AZ and his lovely wife for a great dinner and baseball talk.

2. Awesome seats near the first base dugout, had a blast. AZ actually caught two balls that were tossed to him.

3. There must have been 2-3 thousand Pirate fans among the 41,000 and many were seated near us.

4. We were discussing Alvarez in the second when one Pirate fan asked me, "Hasn't he been struggling lately?" I responded, He has been red hot, hitting homeruns in.................CRUNCH! Timing is everything.

5. I love seeing all the Pirate gear that fans bring out for road games, yellow Stargell shirts, Clemente jerseys, pillbox hats etc., but the cake had to have been taken by a dude a row over from us who had a vintage 70s striped jersey with Dock Ellis's name and number on it.

6. Marte's throw to the plate in the 4th was a thing of beauty live. Took the life right out of the Angel fans, like air from a balloon.

7. Nice to see Cutch and Gabby homer.

Tired, going to bed, can't wait to go for the sweep tomorrow.

This whole SEASON has been fun to watch. Love the phenomenal pitching, but it seems like somebody different is always stepping up to get the job done. I know we were excited the last two years before the collapses, but I think this team is too good, too much depth for that.

Those are the types of things that make going to ball games terrific.

Hopefully tonight's game is just as enjoyable!

Go Bucs!

Even the Angels fans turned around and fist bumped me on that Pedro call. One said, "Wow, now that's karma!"

These last two games were a lot of fun. Corsair is funny, but his wonderful wife wisely told me not to laugh - it just encourages him. :D

Glad you guys enjoyed each others company. I can tell you that game yesterday was just plain fun to watch even on TV.
As a Pirate nut, you would have to work at it not to have had an uplifting time with the edge of the seat stuff that went on in those last innings.

Only downer is my concern that Grili may be spent. Thoughts??

No I don't think Grilli is spent, but his fastball was a couple clicks below normal yesterday. Also he was getting it up in the zone which is why they were hitting it hard.

He gave up 5 hits and I think 3 were hard hit balls. One was a bloop and one was a routine grounder in the hole.

Cause for a bit of concern but that's about it. I think there was an element of luck to his dominance so far. His stuff is very good but not that freaking good. Guys will swing throug fastballs a lot, but not every time.

Grilli's fastball was still clocking in at 93 and 94 mph, but it appeared flatter and it got hit hard when he left it up and out over the plate. Hey. It happens. I'm glad he gave up a 3-spot when the Buccos had a 4-run lead.

I'm in the "Closers Feed On Adrenaline" crowd. Coming in with a 4 run lead . . . doesn't surprise me that Grilli was not amped up and was putting the ball over the plate and making the Angels hit their way on.

He pitched Trout very well. Great pitch on strike 3.

If he starts running up a number of bad outings, then I'll get concerned. For now . . . not so much.

Jason Grilli has a Sidney Crosby WHIP:

0.87

So, yeah, I'm not worried, either.
