The Pirates have agreed to terms with free-agent reliever Chris Bootcheck, a source confirmed last night, and a contract could be signed as soon as today.

The minor league contract will pay $700,000 for time spent in the majors, and he will receive an invitation to the major league portion of spring training.

Bootcheck, 30, is a 6-foot-5, 210-pound right-hander who spent parts of the past five seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and posted a 6.04 ERA in 77 appearances, including a 10.13 ERA in 10 appearances this past season. He has 92 career strikeouts and 55 walks in 132 innings.

He missed part of this past season to elbow soreness but returned to pitch in the minors in August.

So now we are bringing guys in with elbow soreness. We should be close to having the ALL-Elbow Soreness rotation.

I also forgot to ask, does he throw real hard and have no control??
