Per the Post-Gazette's Michael Sansernino ...

Quote:
Gerrit Cole will very likely make his major league debut Tuesday.

And FWIW Wandy likely not going to DL as results just showed inflammation.

Good news. If we are going to make a playoff run, we will need Wandy. I'm excited for Cole, too.

Wow, good news on Wandy.

Cole has been stellar his last two starts - throwing strikes, giving up very few baserunners, and giving up no runs.

I've read that when a pitcher gives up no runs, he tends to have more overall success in those games than pitchers who do give up runs.

You SABRE folks need to realize its about more than stats like this. "Runs allowed"?

Its about how many games he wins. Pitcher W's- can he pitch to the score? And intangibles. Does he wear his socks high and his ears on the outside of his cap? Does he use the right size wad of tabacky? Does he look like he cares (but doesn't showboat)?

Sick of people who think numbers will tell us all about a player.

He also inspires his lineup, though! His xInspire is 3 times league average and 5 times that of soulless Latino "compilers".

SABR is about trying to calculate the probability that pitchers won't allow a run, etc...

It's not that "SABR folks" ignore stats like runs allowed, it's that we tend to focus on different stats in an attempt to understand why pitchers don't allow runs, etc...

Or is sarcasm an intangible?

It's not your xSarc that's an issue. It's your iSarc. You don't translate well on the internet.

Will bringing up Cole to start on June 11 allow him to avoid becoming a Super Two player?

Nobody is positive because it's not a set date, but the general consensus is that Super Two should have passed by then.

Pitch to the score. You're so funny.
